I've been at UPT for almost a month, and I'm hoping (and working my ass off) to get a T38, so I can follow on to a Hog. I was wondering if anyone knows where all the active duty A-10 bases are located.

Very Respectfully,

Osan, Korea; Eielson, AK; Davis-Monthan, AZ; Pope, NC; Spangdalem, Germany; with some Weapons School jets at Nellis, NV and DT&E jets a Eglin, FL.

Just a heads up for you, advise you to change your log-in name to something other than your last name and first initial. I had some problems with that a little while ago.

Good luck, and keep up the hard work.

To continue:

Don't plan on getting Nellis or Eglin out of RTU because it's not going to happen. It is also extremely rare nowadays to get Spang out of RTU. Expect either Korea, Alaska, Pope or DM after training. Many yung'ns choose Korea to get their remote tour out of the way quickly.

It is not "extremely" rare to get Spang out of RTU. We just got a B course guy a few weeks ago, and we are getting another in a couple of months. We do get lots of guys who choose Korea and get a Spang follow-on.

Are you active duty or an ANG guy at UPT?

Guard bases are Boise, Barnes MA, Bradley CT, Willow Grove PA, Baltimore MA and Battle Creek MI.

Reserves are New Orleans, Barksdale LA and Whiteman AFB MO.

Typically, a B-course class of 10 at D-M will have one to Spang, one to Eielson, 3 to Pope, one to D-M and 4 to Osan. Osan has three times the turnover since it is a one year remote for most and Pope has two squadrons.

Like inkjet said, Spang has a few brand new guys, and Osan with a Spang follow up is very common. My word of advice... D-M! I was not entirely satisfied with my tour at Spang...but that's neither here nor there.

inkjet: I think I know who you are...you don't visit the Spiecher Irish Pub occassionaly, do you?

As a matter of fact, yes. I am enlisted in the ANG and I would like to apply for A10 pilot slots when I grad. from college. Right now I'm at an F-16 base and I'm just not impressed with them.

Well sure they can go fast but they just don't have THE GUN. Nothing in the world sound quite like a GAU-8 spitting out 2600 rounds/min. I had the chance to see a flight of three from a firing range bunker...I'll tell you what I had the smile of a Cheshire cat plastered to my face.

I'll do it....I'll do it!!! <img src=newicons/bounce.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/bounce.gif border=0 align=middle> The gun rate is 4200 RPM, 2600 was the low rate which was removed a few years back!

Hehehe always have your facts right when you post here or some butt-head (like myself) will correct you! <img src=newicons/saevil.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_bow.gif border=0 align=middle>

Dice: At Bagram, I had a pilot call a unique red-ball after he would listen to me. He complained that the switch on the ACP would only allow him to select safe or High. I told him that's fine, but he got pissed telling me "No, this is a 3 position switch, and it should go down to low." I mentioned to him that the word low was not on the switch either, he called for a weapons crew anyway, and they laughed at him. Same pilot that wouldn't let me plug an extra headset in to the cockpit commset to see if it was just the mic in his helmet that was bad (it was.)

Dice: Yeah, there is, he was nothing but problems for everyone. He was always good with an FCF, though. Rumor has it he got in a world of schiesse for refusing to stay off the radio during hot pits one day, too...but I don't know that whole story.

He wouldn't have liked me...I would have shut the pit down until he listened and stop talking on the radio...I always enjoyed being on hot pits...especially at Osan....nice covered flows...

I don't want to be picky, but low rate was 2100 per minute, high rate was 4200, now it is listed as 3900. Low rate went away in about 1986 with the superkit gun mod and the Batelle device. When they removed the Batelle, many of us asked to reinstall low rate but they wouldn't do it. Too bad, that was the closest we had to "sniper mode".
