This may be obvious to everyone else, but my clutch is slipping. Did the 47th retain the title because they were leading before the rain rolled in, or was it for some other reason (because they were hosting this year, they were the winners at Ft Drum in 2002, etc)?

Cheers! M2

M2, it's because they are the current overall champs and only 4 teams got in the air, and only 2 I belive over the range, so there was no way to crown and new champ..Barksdale will keep it until another Hawgsmoke.

BTW there was a couple of (minior) awards given which I will cover in my report.

Ok Ok Ok there is no partiality in what I am going to write here. I know who is going to win. The 104th is because we rock ! Really I'm not partial.
<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

Did someone say the 104th

<img src="http://www.x-plane.org/users/topgun/Airshow/A-10%20104th%20FW%202.jpg" border=0>

and not to over look our other neighboring unit, the 103rd FW
<img src="http://www.x-plane.org/users/topgun/Airshow/A-10%20103th%20FW.jpg" border=0>

the lady at the FBO and the 104th pilots let me go on the tarmac when they were parked here at Pease. Different lady at the FOB when the 103rd was in here, "we're busy" she told me while they smoked cigs

The 103rd callsign was Killer

Unrelated minor thread hijack......

Speaking of Barnes and Bradley, has anyone else heard the rumor that due to the upcoming BRAC, the idea's been tossed up of closing one of these units and combining the personnel/aircraft with the other?

wouldn't it make sense to move Bradley's over to Barnes seeing Bradley is more of an active civilian airport?

Branes seems to be much smaller.

GOOSE,WHILE OUT AT H/S, I GOT A LOT OF LOOKING AROUND DONE BETWEEN CHECKING WITH FLIGHT OPS,& DODGEING THE RAIN. WALKED, ALL OVER THE BASE JUST LOOKING AT WHAT WAS STILL THERE, AND WHAT WASN'T. LOTS OF OLD BUILDINGS BEING USED, BUT DORMS, CHAPEL, NCO CLUB, MAIL ROOM/POST OFFICE, CHOW HALL, AND SOME OTHERS I CANT REMEMBER WHAT THEY WERE ARE JUST STANDING THERE WASTING AWAY.BROKE WINDOWS ,VINES GROWING ALL OVER THE WALLS, AND GENERALLY IN TOTAL RUIN. I STAYED IN THE OLD EMS DORM OVER BY THE CHOW HALL, AND IT WAS THE ONLY DORM USED TO HOUSE PEOPLE.THE SWIMMING POOL ACROSS FROM OUR DORM WAS JUST A RAIN FILLED CONCRETE HOLE. LOTS OF STREETS ARE CLOSED, DUG UP, OR NOT EVEN THERE ANYMORE.THE AIRPORT TERMINAL SITS WHERE 75TH OPS USED TO BE,AND THERES A FIRE STATION WHERE THE AGE SHOP USED TO BE. AS FAR AS RED SECTION AMU AND OPS THEIR COMPLETELY GONE, NOTHING BUT GRASS. THE RAMP HAS HAD SO MANY THINGS DRIVEN OVER IT YOU CAN'T SEE ANY OF THE SPOT MARKINGS ANY MORE.IT WAS A FUN WEEKEND, EVEN THO THE COMPETITION NEVER GOT GOING.EXPLORING OUR ''OLD''HOME AWAY FROM HOME WAS BETTER THAN GETTING LOST DOWN IN ALEXANDRIA IN THE RAIN. THOUGHT I'D POST THIS SINCE WE WERE BOTH THERE. SORRY YOU COULDN'T MAKE IT.

Thats a friggin shame I was there a year ago and the only thing still standing that hasn't been touched was the 74th side of the base. Rayboy is right the 76th side where ops and AMU was is gone The 75 OPS Building is a terminal and the ramp markings are gone ... Sorry Goose...<img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle>

Had a blast at Hawgsmoke despite the weather. Great meeting both Dice and Rayboy. Stay in touch lads.

I just need to point out that the aerial view of the Hawgsmoke ramp was taken by me, the PAO copied the picture and sent it to the Air Force News site but did not bother to credit it to me so I'm a bit disappointed. Hopefully they will put it right because as a photographer it is extremely important to me that my efforts are recognised if I get a memorable image. Rant over.

Cheers,

Kevin Jackson

Quick update for anyone that cares. I was too quick off the block to blame the PAO who did a fantastic job of escorting us to anywhere we wanted to go, without a doubt the 917th PA team are the best in the USAF. The lack of credit for the picture was down to the AFNS not adding my name. I've put them right now so I'm a happy bunny again.

I've got a bunch of Hawgsmoke piccies you all might like to see so if anyone can host them I'll gladly email them over.

Cheers,

Kev

THE PICTURE OF THE AIR VIEW

THE 3 HANGARS AT THE TOP WITH THE RED DOORS USE TO BE FROM LEFT TO RIGHT.

PAINT BARN AND THE OTHER 2 WEAPONS LOAD TRAINING

THE PATCH UPPER LEFT HAND CORNER WAS WASHRACK

THE UPPER RIGHTHAND CORNER YOU CAN SEE PART OF THE GOLF COURSE

THE 2 HANGARS ON THE LEFT HANDSIDE DOWN FROM WASHRACK WAS

74TH HANGAR
PHASE DOCK
HOTPITS IN FRONT OF THEM.
BLUE AMU ALONG WITH SHEETMETAL/MACHINE SHOP/NDI./

GOING DOWN THE ROAD THEN ITS BLACK AMU
ENGINE SHOP
THEN OFF TO THE SIDE IS BLACK OP'S

THEN THE BULIDING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ACROSS FROM ENGINE SHOP WAS THE DCM COMPLEX (OA,MOC,DCM,ETC...)

IF YOU FOLLOW THE ROAD ALONG THE FLT LINE THE TERMINAL WAS NEXT,BASICALLY THE DRAG BAG AREA, TRANSIT ALERT, THEN GOING NORTH TO THE BASE TOWER AND TURNING RIGHT ON THE ROAD USE TO BE
RED AMU/OP'S FOR THE 76TH.

THE OLD SOUTH RAMP LOOKS BEAT-UP.
BIT OF HISTORY .
THE UPPER HANGARS WHERE USED DURING OPREATION ENDURING FREEDOM "PANAMA"TO HIDE THE 2 F-117'S THAT BOMBED THE RADAR SITE OR TRIED .
WE USE TO GET THROWN OFF THE LINE FOR HOURS WHILE THEY HID THEM BEFORE THEY WERE SHOWN TO THE WORLD
