Ok with dice's permission from a previous post I will try to clear up the urban legeond around 78-0666 that was stationed at myrlte beach AFB and was assigned to the 356tfs the green demons.

Pilot - Capt Mike "Morning " Star
CC - SSgt Chris Damien

I can not ceonfirm or deny this, maybe someone who was there could, but if that was the pilot and CC it seems that "morning" was given that nick name to go with the jet as well as it is possible that the cc last name was damien. But when I was stationed there, the CC was a Black Ssgt(cant remember his name, he was in b-flt) and the ADCC was a white A1C

As the story goes no one thought twice about this aircraft while preparing to deploy to Saudi Arabia, they did had more important things to think about, right? Well, once there and after it looked like Saddam wasn't going to come south into Saudi, things settled down to a daily routine. During this time a "High Ranking" Saudi Arabian officer walked by the aircraft and it caught his eye. He put it all together and became outraged! Now the Saudi's are Muslims but he felt this was an insult to all religions beliefs and wanted the aircraft taken out of his country! After much feather smoothing and promise making, it was decided the aircraft could stay BUT, not looking like it did. Rumor has it that the names and demon patch were taken off the aircraft but, that was still not good enough for the Saudis. What the squadron finally did was change the number from 666 to 066, which made everyone happy.....Or did it! Again, rumor has it from that day on aircraft 666, now known as 066, broke almost ever day! It would have electrical problems no one could track down, and mechanical problems that after days of work, would fix itself! This aircraft flew fewer hours during Desert Storm than any other A-10. It seems to me 666 didn't like having it's name changed and patch removed!

Well this part I know for sure. 666 DID NOT DEPLOY to the gulf for ww gulf I. It stayed behind, if memory serves me correct it was not even scheduled to so, I do believe it was a chase acft fot the cells departing.

Now, there were some wired things that happened to that acft maintenance wise, it was struck by lightning several times, pilots would report uncommanded rolls, pitch etc, but we could never find any cause, remember this acft NEVER was LASTE modded, so that takes all the possibilities of stray voltage from a frayed wire during mod out of the picture, the only thing that could produce these strange events was stick input..........but was the pilots making these up or was there somthing else controlling this acft.....You decide

Funny but I remember 666 being an A- flight A/C.

Thanks for letting us know the facts JB. I have recived emails from pilots who flew 666 and reported some strange goings-on. One said he was landing in weather in Sig. when the HSI corse knob started spinning, not the HSI card but the knob itself which has no type of motor on it! He said he could reach his hand out and stop it but as soon as he let go it would start spinning again!!
Another said there were some pilots who hated to fly the jet and some who would not put their names on the aircarft.

Thx for the answer to my previous post. The closer to the source the better the story.

I'm suprised that such a number even rolled off the assyembly line. Kinda like Casino's not haven'a Thirteenth floor or room 666.

There are two 666s, 78-0666 which as you know is at AMACR and 73-0666 which was one of the 6 preproduction A-10s, which sits in the museum here at Hill AFB.
I have never heard any stories about the 666 here at Hill??

I think 666 was the jet that that guy with a hook for a hand flew....you know the guy. He always left that hook of his on the rearview mirror of horny teenagers on dark and stormy nights.....
