I know someone who is looking for a minature master maintenance badge in the old dull finish. If someone has one laying around, could you drop me a line at captmadmax@yahoo.com ?

Thanks! M2

Not yet, it is still on my list of things to do but I have yet to find a transfer sheet that will work on my computer. As I don't speak French, trying to find it on the local economy is a pain in the ass. I still plan to do it, I think it will be shit hot!

Cheers! M2

Trust me, the project isn't dead, it's just on hold until I can find some transfers that will work. My plan is to do up a black t-shirt, I have one from the 18 FS that didn't have the A-10 logo on the back like I thought. That pic will work well, and I can wear it to work!

With the wreath Goose. We went away from the satin finish some years ago.

Yeah Goose you know what else you cant find is the buck sergeant metal ensignia. If you have those you are doing good. There are a lot of guys retiring now that wore buck but cant find the metal chevrons for their retirement boxes because we havent had bucks in years.

I am looking at a pair from my days as an E-4 NCO, isn't the new SrA the same as the old buck sergeant? Honestly, I'd think the old airman ranks (pre-star) would be harder to find...

I remember when we thought being an A1C was the shit, and that you stayed one forever (about 26 months, if I recall correctly). Hell, I was a captain for over seven years, and that was the norm!

Max they now wear the old no star like you are talking about so they are easy to get. You dont get a star until SSgt. I am talking metal insignia of course. Stripes for Blues and BDU's have a subdued star.

Errr...I think we are confusing each other now! All enlisted rank now have the star, from E-1 on up, such as the chart below. It is not subdued on the BDU or DCU uniform, nor on the metal collar/sweater...

Now, the old Amn, A1C and SrA stripes, where there was no star (or at least on the fatigue uniform* it was green like the background), those would be hard to find nowadays. I remember people used to refer to the "promotion" to buck sergeant as the "Bic promotion," as a lot of people would just ink in the star on their fatigues.

Note: The above picture is Air Force Cross recipient Richard L. Etchberger. On 11 March 1968, CMSgt Richard L. Etchberger was manning a defensive position when the base was overrun by an enemy ground force. The enemy was able to deliver sustained and withering fire directly upon this position from higher ground. His entire crew dead or wounded, Chief Etchberger continued to return the enemy's fire thus denying them access to the position. During this entire period, Chief Etchberger continued to direct air strikes and call for air rescue on his emergency radio, thereby enabling the air evacuation force to locate the surrounded friendly element. When air rescue arrived, Chief Etchberger deliberately exposed himself to enemy fire in order to place his three surviving wounded comrades in the rescue slings permitting them to be airlifted to safety. As Chief Etchberger was finally being rescued, he was fatally wounded, by enemy ground fire. His fierce defense which culminated in the supreme sacrifice of his life, saved not only the lives of his three comrades but provided for the successful evacuation of the remaining survivors of the base.

Of course your right Max. I had a major brain fart. Of course I have only had to help my commander serve 11, yes 11 article 15's in the last week and a half. So if I am suffering from brain fade I have an excuse. This alternate shirt duty is for the birds. Dice how is retired life?

Fender

No biggie, I was just fearing it was me who was having the brain fart. I was deployed for six months when the USAF went to the new stripes ten years ago, it took me twice as long to get it right. The worse part was when seeing a SNCO with their BDU sleeves rolled up, 'cause I was too used to thinking one stripe on top was a Senior, two was a Chief. Three on top really threw me for a loop, and that was 10 years ago, think about how many more brain cells I have killed since (two tours in Europe during that time)!

I sympathize with your Shirt duties, I was a section commander for a while and during my last week we had a really ugly incident that I will skip the details on, but it not only caused my Shirt and I to work a lot of hours, but it cause a lot of emotional strife to me as well. I knew the guy in question and really just wanted to kick his ass, ala Goose's Old School method. We ended up sending him to Levenworth for life, so I am sure someone is doing the job for us.

Cheers! M2

Actually Goose that is not it. I cant elaborate but lets just say mixing young people and alcohol equal bad choices. Very bad choices.
