I worked 52 EMS weapons backshop. I don't think that's close enough for you though.

Yo, inkjet, by any chance are you in touch with Last Raven (Brian)? I need to get a snail mail addy for him. Can't remember if he was leaving Spang for DM or Nellis.

I got an email from Raven a week or so ago and he said he was doing fine and to say hi to everyone here....so...Hi from Raven. I'm sure he will get in touch with me and post here as soon as he gets in place at his new base (I forget which one also).

Hogman,
I was at the 81st for a little over 3 1/2 years, from 95-98. It's been a while, but maybe I can help you out. Let me know.

Thanks for all the offers of help guys - you are really great.

I have now managed to get sorted with the help I needed but thanks again for the offers.

Does anyone know if the 81 FS are currently deployed elsewhere (Afghan, Iraq etc?)

Thanks
Kevin

That is a question that not only shouldn't be answered on this forum, but not even asked in the first place!

I love Hogman's bio...L-39 and SU-27 jock in the Ukranian AF. What BS! Another PC gamer wannabe, no doubt.

Actually, what I <b>should</b> have said was <i>"That is a question that not only <b>won't</b> be answered on this forum, but should not have even been asked in the first place!"</i>, but I think y'all caught my drift...

hogman, didn't mean to bitchslap you so hard but yours was truly a question that clearly violates everything we are taught in the USAF concerning operations security. It is almost verbatim out of an AFN commercial! You will find everyone on this forum to be friendly and helpful, but asking where people or units are deployed to is not the kind of question you want to post here.

Cheers! M2

I think hogmans bio was written 'tongue in cheek'......if its who I think it is, he won flights in some Russkie crates a few years back in an AFM magazine competition.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hey Max

Dont worry about the "bitchslap" from ya, its kind of expected on this forum, as thats what most people seem to experience!

Its a shame that the question I asked wont be answered especially since the "Air Force Link" website doesnt seem to have any issues telling everyone who is deployed where! (see the previous thread A-10s rescue ambushed ground forces). Also noticed the AFN seems to mention details all the time too!

Coach

Such a shame you think its acceptable to personally attack me when you dont know anything about me, guess that tells us all something about you.

Bacon Bits

Yep you are nearly correct in your post, yep I won a couple of flights in "Russkie crates" as you call them, this was a great experience but did lead on to more opportunities and door openings! Dont worry the magazine competition is not the total sum of experience I have - dont think that really qualifies anyone as aircrew!

I'm going to side with Hogman on this one. Coach comes off as having a negative bias against anybody who likes flight sims. For example:
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>http://forum.a-10.org/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6467
I don't even know why you guys waste your time with those "gamer-dudes". Nothing but a bunch of knuckleheads. <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>Now granted, in that case, that guy was a knucklehead, and that's putting it gently, but he comes off as very "anti-gamer" making such broad statement. And now this:
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>What BS! Another PC gamer wannabe, no doubt.<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>
As if it's such a terrible thing to like our ridiculous games! Sorry Coach, we can't all be pilots. I love playing flight sims on my PC, and if that makes me a "wannabe" well then, I've got something to say to you Coach, but that pesky Article 89 of the UCMJ (Disrespect toward a superior commissioned officer) is making me bite my tongue

Hogmans Profile says exactly this:

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Bio:Ex L-39 and SU-27 Fighter Jock, UKrAF<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

hogmans disclaimer in the forum:

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Bacon Bits

Change the Sig.

COACH has every right to raise concern. He carries a signifigant Leadership position and has many faces he needs to bring home alive.

Having a NOOB on WT first claim in a BIO that they are a Former SU27-L39 Fighter jock, asking for the whereabouts of a Fighter squadron. Then Making smart ass Comments to a Very well established Real Deal.

JACKB. IS it ok if someone you never met before, makes a false claim of status, comes over and Shits on your carpet?

Didn't sound to me like he was raising concern. Sounded more like just using another opportunity to put down gamers.
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Having a NOOB on WT first claim in a BIO that they are a Former SU27-L39 Fighter jock, <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>
Like Bacon Bits said, I think that was written tongue in cheek. If you take someone's bio here says as the gospel truth, then maybe you should take another look at <i>yours</i>, which says exactly <i>this</i>:
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Real Name: Jack Ass<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>
See, tongue in cheek right?
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>asking for the whereabouts of a Fighter squadron<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>
....that the Air Force webpage doesn't seem to mind giving out. Granted, a waste to be asked here, but still, I fail to see whats so terrible about asking.
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Then Making smart ass Comments to a Very well established Real Deal.<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>
Actually, the real deal made the comments first.

I hesitate to even post this, but here goes...

I don't hate gamers, I despise people who put themselves up as something they are not. I don't play PC games, except the occasional solitare or golf, but my kids do and the technology is astounding (at least to me). It surpasses even Donkey Kong, the limit of my ability. But PC flight sims are not flying. Sims are not flying, no matter how realistic, because you aren't really making the bet we all make when climb the ladder after the crew chief makes his bet by giving us the jet. PC sims are not real. The salutes exchanged between the crew chief and the pilot as he taxis out of the spot are very real. The contract between a flight lead and his wingman are very real. The chunks of metal the size of barstools flying 50 feet in the air after a strafe pass are real. Losing an engine at 300 ft AGL is real. Fighting Igor in his MiG-29 on your laptop is not real.

I enjoy this board for a couple of reasons. For the most part, everyone here has one thing in common, their interest in the A-10 and its history, future and mission. Some just admire it from afar, others work on it, and some, like me fly it. But this board can sometimes suffer from the common internet problem of anonymous rudeness. Nobody really knows who we are, so we can write things here that we would never say to one's face. "Don't push me or I'll type your ass." If you know a Hog Driver named Coach, then you know me, I don't hide my identity here, maybe I should. Yes, I have some seniority in the AF, that is why I temper what I say here. I mainly read the posts and post to try and keep the discussion technically honest. I am not acting in my official capacity and do not wish to interpreted as doing so here. I'm just passing time talking about a subject I have dedicated my life to for the last 22 years. Sometimes I will try and give friendly advice to guys who ask honest questions about their career. Again, I have learned a few things over the years, take it or leave it. That's the beauty of free advice. If you don't agree with me, say so. My feelings won't be hurt.

As far as OPSEC goes here, I am not quite as conservative as some of the folks here (except when it comes to people's full names), but the question here was just a little too direct. If someone here makes outrageous statements or asks off the wall questions, I will usually look at the bio to see what they say about themselves. I hate when people pretend to be something they are not.

ATTACK!
Coach

Right then Gentelmen

Lets put the record straight.

No I arent a PC Gamer - personally I love what the sims are like now, but dont play any for the simple reason my PC aint up to it! I would love to see the new A-10 game (LOMAC?) and try it, but often found in the past sims didnt quite seem right!

Technically no I was never employed by the UKrAF. Although I am an Honorary Member of the 3FS UKrAF due to the work I did with them.

Yes I have hours in the L-39A Albatross, and have some hours in the SU-27 - and yes REAL WORLD hours, not flight sim hours.

I was never a front line pilot, and never will be now. I am no longer flying anything (incl civilian).

I dont see the need for me to prove anything to anyone except friends and family.

People need to stop and think alittle sometimes instead of getting so hot headed and aggressive. Life is far too short and means too much to get all petty.

This is my last word on the subject, I arent prepared to spend any more time on this.

I dont want to upset anyone, I dont mean to offend anyone, but please get a grip and move on!

The reason I wanted to know if the 81FS was still at Spang and not away was because I was wondering why they never competed in the recent Excalibur Excerise in the UK.

All the best
Kevin

Well shit, dude, why didn't you just ask that in the first place? It would have saved us all a lot of trouble, which should take place over on the thread about McSally's men's flight cap! <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

Now, back to the action...I see your hours in the Su-27, and raise you seven freefall jumps out of a Mi-2 with the Slovak Special Forces. Your bet, or do you fold?

Cheers! M2
