Hey guys I went to a local antique market this past week and picked up a breech bolt from the gau-8. Its in ok condition, the only markings on it are a "B 1 W" any idea what this means, also I was wandering about how many rounds do they go through before changing them out?

Do you have a complete bolt assembly? How much did you give for it? The gun bolts are time change items but I cant remember at which "K" inspection we used to change them. Maybe some of the guys still lucky enough to work on them could tell you.

Yes its a complete assembly, and he didn't know what it was, but through browsing the internet and seeing pictures I knew what it was.
I cost me $15. When I get my digital camera working I'll post pictures.

I'm thinking 30,000 rounds but I could be wrong.

I won't get back to work until Monday, but I'll get with some of the backshoppers I know and get you an exact answer for this one. That is a great find, but I'm wondering how it ever wound up at an antique store. You could definately make a profit off of that on EBay. Are there any other markings still on it?

Aren't these things supposed to be demilled?

Demilled is pretty subjective. It does not take much to demill it.

As I recall from trying to demill some, they have to be in pieces.
