I like this part

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>“Without engines, the aircraft really couldn’t get off the ground,” <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

Seems to me, it definitly couldn't get off the ground...lol...

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>“You can almost rebuild the engine right on the wing.”<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

And since when were the engines placed on the wings...guess I missed that TCTO...

If I were to be really picky....there was an error in the picture caption saying he was going to remove the engine that appears to already be on the trailer. Which I now guess is on the wing. Perhaps he is working on the A-9?

FOOTBALL VALVE BEING REPLACED MAYBE 2 A YEAR?

<img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle>
BOY THINGS HAVE CHANGED

AND FULL POWER ENGINE RUNS, WHO ME? NEVER WOULD OF DID THAT.
<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

I NEVER SAW A PILOT IN MY YEARS ON THE A-10 EVER COME OUT TO DO A ENGINE RUN, OR IN THAT FACT THE WHOLE TIME I WAS IN, THAT INCLUDES C-141'S WE ALWAYS DID OUR OWN RUNS WITH OR WITHOUT TIE DOWNS.

HEAT WAS A PROBLEM,WE HAD TOO MOTOR THEM BEFORE THE PILOTS CAME OUT TO LOWER THE EGT TEMPS BEFORE THE FIRST MISSION,THEN AGAIN AT GRANDFORKS WE MOTORED THEM TO WARM THEM UP TO KEEP THE PILOTS FROM HAVING A HOT START BEFORE THEY CAME OUT.

Hey those guys are from Eielson!!! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> And yes Pilots have been known to come out and help out doing a full up engine run. But that's why you have the hush house and trim pad. Just tie her down good...She won't run away...unless there's ice on the ramp and you forget the tie downs...but ask the Lawn Dart guys about that one!!!

I've been to deployed areas that didn't have a trim pad area and we'd get a pilot to run engines for us at EOR for the power run. One time we had the equipment set up like a hot pit, had the pilot taxi the jet to us, trim the jet and flow him out to fly after the forms were signed off.
Cheers

Goose caught what I was looking at.

I've only been off the hog for a year and I know things couldn't have changed that much. This used to be a regular job, but I guess it depends on your "Sparky's" ability/desire to troubleshoot the system instead of shooting from the hip.

As for pilots and ground runs I know we used them on more than one occasion. I can remember one time in Vegas (LOLA), they saved us more than 4 hours just in tow jobs by coming out to run the jet on the spot.

We have had our pilots taxi from the LOLA at Vegas over to the hangar and back. That saved a buttload of time for us. It feels weird sending him out of the chocks without strapping him in though...

I THOUGHT ABOUT IT AND WE NEVER USED PILOTS TO TAXI FOR MAINTANCE,WE TOWED THEM OR T-ALERT OR USED THEM FOR MAINTANCE.
I'M SURE IF WE ASKED THEY WOULD OF BUT IT JUST WASNT DONE BACK THEN.
THEY EVEN FLEW ME AND A SPARKY OUT TO KIRKLAND AFB FOR A FOOTBALL VALVE ON 1 HOG,PLUS THE OTHER ONE HAD IDG FAILURE AND YOU HAD TO BE ENGINE RUN QUALIFIED IN ORDER TO GO.
E-4'S AND ABOVE HAD TO BE RUN QUALIFIED IF YOU WERE A DCC.
THAT TDY TURNED INTO A 2 IDG,1 FOOTBALL VALVE,2 FUEL CONTROLS, 2 TRIM RUNS,INS INOP, HYDRAULIC PRESSURE SWITCH INOP, PLUS CANOPY SEAL PROBLEM.
STARTED OUT 2 ENDED UP 5 HOGS 3 FROM EAFB AND 2 BARKSDALE ALL RETURNING FROM DEPOT.
LONGEST 7 DAY TDY I EVER WAS ON PLUS WE ENDED UP AT HOLLOMAN AFB BECAUSE SOMEONE KNEW A FRIEND THERE AND HAD ANOTHER IDG FAILURE.
THATS WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT F-15 AND A-10'S SHARE THE SAME IDG SEAL.
HAD TO CALL BACK HOME FOR ENVIRO AND ANOTHER ENGINE TROOP PLUS COMM NAV. AND QA.

WE HAD A BLAST!!!!!!!!!

MONEY TALKS,B.S. JUST PILES UP.
