And people want to still deny there is a war on terrorism. Al Qada has long standing ties to these bastards. I want them dead and dead now so I am not burying my 6 month old daughter in a few years.

BESLAN, Russia (AP) - Commandos stormed a school Friday in southern Russia and battled separatist rebels holding hundreds of hostages, as crying children, some naked and covered in blood, fled through explosions and gunfire. More than 100 bodies were reportedly found in the gym where hostages had been held.

The extent of the casualties was not immediately known. The militants, who had been demanding independence for nearby Chechnya, had been holding up to 1,500 hostages - mostly women and children - in the sweltering gymnasium for more than two days.

A cameraman for the British network ITN reported seeing around 100 bodies in the gym. The correspondent for Russia's Interfax news agency reported that there were dozens of bodies in the school, including about 100 in the gym, and that some were killed when the building's roof collapsed from an explosion.

Other casualties were reported when militants opened fire on hostages as they fled the building and in fighting that went on for several hours afterward. More than 400 people were wounded, including at least 180 children.

At least 100 bodies have reportedly been found in a school in southern Russia where Chechen separatists had been holding hundreds of hostages.

Heavy gunfire and loud explosions were heard throughout the morning as Russian troops stormed the school, in the town of Beslan in North Ossetia.

There is confusion as to why the Russian forces went in, as the operation seems to have been unplanned.

Hundreds of children were freed in the seizure, though some are badly injured.

Russian officials confirmed that some dead had been found inside the school, while a correspondent for the Interfax news agency put the number at more than 100.

More than 400 people were injured.

Several of the hostage takers are also reported to have died in exchanges of fire with troops as they tried to escape, Reuters reports.

Some are reported to have blown themselves up, but others appear to have got away, says the BBC's Jonathan Charles.

At a glance: School siege
Itar-Tass news agency said a group were holed up in another building in the area.

Russian security officials said they had still been intending the negotiate with the hostage-takers.

"I want to point out that no military action was planned," said regional Federal Security Service chief Valery Andreyev. "We were planning further talks."

Security forces had opened fire to save the lives of hostages who were being fired on by gunmen, he said.

The BBC's Sarah Rainsford says a man who had been inside the building told her there had been an explosion and a wall had collapsed. This had been followed by gunfire and many more explosions.

It is unclear what caused the initial explosion.

White sheets

Correspondents say many of those released were desperate for water when they came out, and some were barely able to stand.

Relatives were running around screaming and crying

Eyewitness: Chaos as battle grips school
There were scenes of pandemonium, as children ran terrified and half-naked through the streets grabbing water bottles from medics.

One boy described his escape.

"I smashed the window to get out," he told Russian TV. "People were running in all directions... [The rebels] shot from the roof."

Ambulances ferried hundreds of people to hospital. Our correspondent says at least 150 children were among them.

Helicopters hovered overhead and there were troops everywhere.

Reuters said six bodies lay covered with white sheets near the school gates, and parents filed past lifting the sheets to see whether their children were underneath.

Officials put the number of hostages at 354 before Thursday's release, although the school has more than 1,000 pupils.

Hundreds of relatives of those being held inside the school who had been waiting anxiously outside the security cordon reacted in panic to the outbreak of fighting.

The attackers - both men and women, some wearing bomb belts - struck on Wednesday, the first day of the new school year in Russia.

1 - At 0850GMT a vehicle from the Emergencies Ministry is sent in to retrieve the bodies of those killed at the start of the siege
2 - A small number of the children being held hostage escape from the building. The attackers start firing at the children to try to block their escape. In response the Russian troops surrounding the school fire at the attackers
3 - A series of explosions rock the school gymnasium, bringing the roof of the building down

Inclosing I thought these muslims had stuff against defiling women and making them walk around uncovered. The double standards for fighting a culturally sensitive war must end.

Eh, save france<spit> for last. Should it start in Somalia or Sudan? Sweep through Egypt towards Israel and/or the Med, plenty of radicals to clear out in those places. (I'll admit the janjaweed<spit> are somewhat of an itch I wouldn't mind taking part in scratching.)

Ohh! Ohh ohh ohh ohh ohh! Let's not overlook China. They have a problem with an Islamic group in the southwest of their country. Granted this faction has been said to have ties to al-qaeda, but no real effort by America has been done about them, for some reason.

The PRC might be good for some nominal support, at least within their own borders. Every little bit to tie up different branches of militant groups that are aligned with OBL.

This is starting to make me curious...

Spanish election coming up = train stations bombed.

Russian/Chechen political situation heats up = Chechens take school hostage.

U.S. election coming up = ???

LMAO!! Hell yeah!!

I've never fully understood how political correctness and 'freedom of [insert freedom here]' have kept rationally thinking people from realizing this very simple thought process:

When someone/something injects fear and/or threat into your society, you eliminate that someone/something before they have chance to act on that fear/threat. Your own personal safety and peace of mind is more important than someone else's right to be an asshole, so why is it such a difficult decision to eliminate a terrorist threat when it makes its presence known?

All the lefty Kerry supporters believe that not only should we pull our troops OUT of the Middle East, but that we shouldn't have ever entered Iraq in the first place; how many more 9-11/Russian school events are going to have to transpire before the veil of ignorance is lifted from the views of the scared public?

Maybe that's what the basis of Democratic support is - fear. Maybe they're too afraid to risk their own safety and security in the short-term to have the same things for their family and future generations in the long-term. I thought we gave up that "scaredy-cat" pussy-ass bullshit when we left Britain; I thought we fought against it during the Revolutionary War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Cuban Missile Crisis and ODS; I thought our country's strength was rooted in the fact that we had a "don't fuck with us" mentality.

I guess I'm going to coin a new term and start using it as a basis for my views on the political party represented by the jackass:

It seems that the frogs are mentioned here enough that we need a smilie to represent the spitting. I'm sure someone on these boards is computer smart enough to create one, but until then, we can borrow. Here are a few I've found. I like the last one.

I asked pete to add the puking emoticon to the site, i think that'll do nicely. ;)

If i can get him to add two...that'd be even better. Thanx T7.

I agree it is important that we be able to properly display our distaste for the french. <img src="http://home.earthlink.net/~teksolutionsinc/spit.gif" border=0>
