"I consider a 3-3 Browns forcing a 5-0 Eagles to an unexpected overtime game (favorable call or not) "doing it.""
They lost. Doing it doesn't ever involve losing...
"Granted they didn't win, but the Eagles should've steamrolled the Browns yesterday, and everybody expected as much."
The Browns WERE undefeated(3-0) at home going into yesterday's game(which i was unaware of until i read it in the paper today).
Not anymore they're not...
I also think Garcia played at the top of his game because of his rivalry with T.O., and that makes a difference.
"I watched the majority of the game, and I wasn't as impressed with Philly's normally "stunning O" and "spectacular D" as I was with Cleveland's ability to hang with your "#1 seed in the NFC"."
The Eagles O put up over 400yds, McNabb threw for 370yds and four TDs, and the Eagles had two 100yard recievers....on the road outside in swirling winds.
That's not impressive?
The D was weak yesterday though. A lot of the birds players were complaining about illegal picks today in the paper, but that's part of the game. Everyone runs picks....even if they are illegal.
"How about Derrick Mason, 5th in the league for receiving yards last season, 13th for receiving TDs? Granted they don't have much (their newly crowned starting RB is doing a semi-decent job of filling George's shoes, but there's still room for improvement), but they're no slouch."
Without Air McNair, slouch is exactly what they are. Regardless, at home, against an injury depleted squad, without it's 1st String QB, you should win big.
"They've scored 124 points this season - 3 points less than the 5-1 Jets, 7 MORE points than the 4-2 Giants, 8 MORE points than the 4-2 Lions, 5 less points than the 5-2 Falcons... you get the point."
McNair played in all those games. Had he played the whole game, they'd have no doubt made that a very close game yesterday. But he didn't. Credit the Vikings D for knocking him out early.
"The only one of those I'll give you credit for is Pittsburgh. The Rams are sloppy this year... lost 31-14 to an 0-5 Dolphins team yesterday, and they're only 2-1 at home."
Sloppy or not, the Rams will be a playoff team, and they are VERY hard to beat in their dome(i know, i watched them play in it with Booms and 30mm a few years ago...the place is the definition of hostile to the opposing team).
"The Giants are also only 2-1 at home, and they've got Warner, Barber, Toomer, Hilliard, Shockey and the rest, and a semi-competent defense when they want to play."
The Giants are loaded with offensive weaponry, and have a lot of players on Defense. They'll be one of this years six NFC playoff teams.
"And Green Bay... please, don't get me started. Until yesterday's "awakening" the Packers were 0-3 AT HOME, winning only against the horrible excuse for 'America's Team' known as the Cowboys."
I'll bet you 20 bucks the pack smokes the Vikes at lambeau this year. You in?
"Green Bay's lucky they're in a division with Chicago; otherwise they'd be in LAST place in the NFC North instead of only 3rd place. I never thought I'd be saying it, but Pittsburgh's the only competition I see out of your listing of "playoff contenders".
All four of the teams i listed will be playoff teams....all four will be on the road. I also didn't list the Seahawks, because they've gone in the tank this season. Earlier in the year, that was looking like a real tough road game.
Then those 'mediocre' Rams smoked them, and they've been in freefall ever since. Nice break for the Eagles. No one could've predicted when the season started that the Pack would have 3 home losses already. EVERYONE expected the Rams and Seahawks to be among the NFC elite.
"I really do hope the Vikes and Eagles make it to the NFC Championship game... with Atlanta and St. Louis leading their respective divisions right now (both teams have had more points scored AGAINST them than FOR them), it's looking like that's the most likely playoff scenario anyway. We'll see what happens in December/January."
Yup. However, i get the distinct feeling that when the Vikes get into Nov and Dec that they'll find out they still can't win outside on the road(as they havn't been able to do for the last two years now). The Vikes will probably end up about 12-4 this season.
Eagles will probably finish about 13-3. Vikes need to finish a game ahead of the Eagles because of the Eagles having the head to head win, otherwise the Vikes will be coming to Philly in early January.
Avg. temp in Philly in Jan. is about 25 degrees F, and it's on grass. The Vikes have historicly sucked A) in the cold, B) on grass, and C) on the road.
In the time the Pats have gone 21-0, the Eagles have gone 19-2.
Not bad...
