Long time lurker...first time poster.

Been reading with great interest about the upgrades associated with PE and the "C" designation. Two questions:

1) I have been searching for some time now for a diagram/photo of the upgraded cockpit. I've read of two MFDs, a UFC, and HOTAS. Does anyone have a diagram/photo of the A-10C cockpit, proposed or in progress?

2) Is the upgrade destined for the Guard/AFRES first? How long until active duty A-10Cs are the norm? USAFE? Haven't been able to find much on this either. I'm sure it is a political animal (STS) that has yet to be tamed, but just wondering what the impression is out there.

Love the forum. There is some real professional expertise around here that sets it apart from other corners on the net (read: no kids). Keep up the good work.

We'll I can ask around if were allowed to post pics/ drawings of the new cockpit config and full proposed time line. Dice would be a good one to ask.

The PE program is, right now as I understand it an active duty program that the gaurd and AFRES wants but not all of them may buy in the PE form. As far as becoming the norm, we'll see if the time line holds true for 2008 in the active duty. Who knows.

A 13 minute response...can't ask for better than that! Thanks! I'll understand if the cockpit layout is not yet releasable. Just curious/drooling/planning dreamsheets/etc.

I dont think that the final A10c cockpit even exists yet. The first 4 or is it 6 aircraft arent slated to start untill after the first of the year.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

They are working on a jet at Hill even as we speak....wandered over a few times to look at it. Its a kit proof so to speak, got some contrators doing the work. The cockpit arrangement as far as I know is pretty much set.

The cockpit design is basically complete. There will likely be minor changes after the first coupla installations as they figure out the problems with it. The cockpit diagram/concept is releasable, as far as I know, but I'll double check that also. I'll see if I can find a copy of it somewhere and let you know if I can find something.

as far as pics of the "new" cockpit, and things such as PE and such, andbody involved really isn't allowed to even know that much yet, the A-10 is going throught a lot of new phases right now, and those never really become the norm until all aircraft get equiped. by looking at past patters though, it seems the guard and reserve get a lot of new upgrades first. my personal guess would have to be because we in the guard/afres are more accessable, as far as when we are not deployed, i imagine it's hard for active jets to upgrade when they are rarely home. good luck with getting ur hands on a recent pic though, that is shacky ground that i wouldn't step on though!

just sit back, and let the 30mm do the work!!!

The Cockpit design is complete but like TG said there will be minor changes on the whole mod as we do the first installs. As far as pictures, there have been a couple released (two as far as I know) to the press for a mag story (on PE) in the UK. It's not that the configuration is classified (I think) but that this is a BIG deal for the A-10, USFA, and Lockheed Martin, all want the maximum PA so they are keeping it pretty quite until time for release. There are a couple of events planed for the next year or so, the first being a "first flight" at Eglin sometime early next year, a date has not been set yet.

As far as schedule, ths is a CAF mod which will affect the entire A-10 fleet but, I will not be the one to post who gets it, and when, this goes to OPCEC/COMSEC and aircraft capibilities. I'm sure each unit that recives the mod will get their time "in the sun" and everyone will know who has it and who doesn't but, I would feel more confortable leting the USAF release this info as it sees fix.

I will be posting info as it becomes public on both my site ( http://www.warthogpen.com ) and here so you know where to get the latest on the Hawg.

Thinking about it a little more there are a couple of (nice) diagrams hanging on the walls at work produced by LM. I don't know if they were released to the public or internal posters, let me check with LM and Hills PA offices tomorrow and see what has be released and what can be posted here.

Why Seaweed, because of the IFFCC computer? I have a ton of images but the point is should I, or anyone else, post them without going through LM or the base PA office? This is a politically "hot potato" and I suggest getting the proper say-so or finding pics on the net somewhere before posting anything you may have.....just my suggestion! Think about it, LM (nor Eglin) has posted any pics and they have the most to gain from the PR.....wonder why??

All the "stuff" I've seen is marked FOUO (For Official Use Only) which means it's not releasable. As far as the Guard and Reserve getting the mod, all commands are scheduled to receive it. The schedule is set up using a lot of factors..AEF rotation being key. Many units will have something less than a full-up fleet initially with catch up being performed on the back end.

It's my understanding that the "C" designation will not take effect until all the mods, including engine upgrades, are complete. Am I AFU on that?

Chief, the "C" designation is not tied to the engine upgrades, when an aircraft rolls through the PE line it will roll in an A model and rool out a C.

I checked with Hill PA and LM today and the posters hanging on the walls at work are for "internal use only"...sorry. There are a couple of pictures (including a side view of the cockpit) in the UK mag I meationed above (Airforces Monthly) which should be on bookstore shelfs now.... or very soon.

The PA flood-gates on the A-10C will be opening soon so just hold on until after the Holidays and you should have all the info you want on the A-10C Borg-Hawg.

Actually, it's more about money that it is about accessability. The guard/reserve are more willing/able to put more money on the table for these upgrades than the Active Duty is. That's why you see the newer upgrades growing up in the guard first...Litening, CMS, etc. Once the technology is proven and the costs go down, the AF can finally afford it, so they get in on it.

It's an A-10B without the backseat, but plenty of new upgrades and goodies (read PE).

So, you have trouble. We all have trouble. Build a bridge and get over it.
