Is that the November or December issue of AirForce Monthly?? I just looked through the December issue and didn't see any pics of an A-10C. The December issue has been on sale since 11 Nov, sould it possibly be the January 2005 issue?

AFMonthly's web site is: http://www.airforcesmonthly.com/

Cheers! M2

Dice, if you could, grab me a copy. My boss wants to use my appearance in the mag as EPR material. Email me at my .mil addy with the specifics (what month/issue) if you don't mind. Thanks in advance.

Dice/Muggs

Actually, like most magazines the December issue has been on the stands since 11 November, and the next issue will be the January one which will be out on 11 December. Anyhow, I will be in the UK next week (staying at Alconbury for a few days, actually), and I will see if I can pick a copy up. Magazines here are expensive, about $8-10 due to the lousy dollar...

Well, stopped by a news agent in Mildenhall and they had the Jan 2005 issue of AirForces Monthly, and the A-10C article (all one page of it) was in there. I didn't grab it as £3.50 = $7, I can get it cheaper once I get back to Belgium. it was an interesting read, but nothing overly exciting.

Cheers! M2

Yep, there are only two pics...one of an A-10 in flight (always beautiful) and another from the right side of the cockpit with a contractor talking to a USAF maintainer who is sitting in the jet. I will try and pick the issue up this week and can scan it in if you are interested.

Cheers! M2

M2, I have that already in PDF format, we thought they might have used more shots in the mag itself. Mugs I will get you the PDF file and email it to you Monday...do you still want a hard copy?

Dice, I already got the PDF from Jerry. I'll still take a hard copy, even though I wish they would have used more of the pics.

MMMax, getting away from the 'C' Hog briefly, you mentioned staying at Alconbury.....have they still got the A-10 as gate guardian?
It was 80-219 and finished its days as a ground trainer after a 'prang' at Alconbury in about 89.

Bits

The Hog is still there, but not near the gate...there is a fiberglass F-5 in Aggressor livery at the gate. The A-10, as you said 80-0219 complete with a Phoenix noseart, sits about a halfmile in on the main road.

While at Duxford on Friday, I saw what I believe to be the only other A-10 still left on the UK, 77-0259. It's hanging from the roof in the American Air Power hanger.

Cheers! M2

Thanks for clearing that one up Max.
The Duxford Hog is the one in my avatar.........I took the picture a couple of years ago and messed about with it during a particularly slow day (hence the sky backgound)
259 began its service career at Bentwaters before transferring to Truax WI....then about 1990 it made its way back across the pond (with the aid of a pilot) and joined the 511th TFS,10th TFW at RAF Alconbury before retiring to Duxford in 1992.

Returning to the thread, how will the Panthers jets go through the 'C' mod ? will they be returned to the States or can the changes be sub contracted out to a European based company?.....Over to you Dice.

First flight at Eglin? You sure about that?? Also, know anything about the redesignation timeframe with relation to tech data? Technically a 1A-10A-anything doesn't really apply to an A-10C...

Raven, I'm sure the first flight will be at Eglin because 989 wil be the aircraft used for the safty of flight sortie which will cert. the mod for flight. If you want to talk T.O.s email me at my .mil addy and I'll answer all your questions.
