Just listened to the Eagles team trainer on the radio.

He says that the chances of TO playing in the NFC championship are 'slim'.

He further said that the chances of TO playing in the Superbowl are 'a little less slim'.

Wonderful...

The question now is can The Wizard pick up the slack. Methinx yes.

Nah, the reason the Eagles couldnt advance last year is because Westbrook was hurt.

So long as Westbrook and McNabb are healthy they'll still get there, but they've got no chance at winning it without Owens...who MAY be able to play in the Super Bowl.

Beyond that, the Eagles have a MUCH better defense than last year, or the year before, or the year before.

The competition is also weaker this year than in any of the three previous years.

Care to place a little wager on the Eagles making the big game? :)

"Something tells me we'll see a replay of last years Packers/Eagles playoff game with potentially different results."

You did see what Brian Westbrook did to the packers, right?

Over 200yds from scrimmage.

Green Bay has not won in Philly since 1962, and Brett Favre has never won a game in Philly(0-4 lifetime).

The only team that scares me at all in the NFC is the Falcons.

They're the only playoff team with any defense at all in the NFC besides the Eagles and the Redskins(who are out of the picture now only because Gibbs stuck with Brunell for so long).

The Vikes, Pack, Seahawks, and whoever else might qualify by default all have just glaring weaknesses on defense.

As bad as the Vikes D is, the Pack D is even worse. The Eagles will hammer the Pack again(but not as bad) if there's a rematch. Wanting revenge is great and all, but when you've got no defense to speak of it doesn't mean much...

The Eagles will activate rookie 3d round draft pick Billy McMullen, 6'-4", 225lbs to 'replace' TO until he can come back. He has pretty good speed for a big man, and reportedly has pretty good hands. We'll see...

WR T.Pinkston has caught a lot of heat lately for his alligator arms, but he's having his best year as a pro, and is a legitimate deep threat(he has something like 9 receptions of 40yds or more), and F. Mitchell is a solid possession reciever. McMullen will be the big X factor, but he looked really good in the preseason, and in his press conference today Reid said he's look solid in practice of late.

If it wasn't for the Eagles dominating Defense i admit i'd be pretty panicked right now...but the Eagles D leads the league in Sacks, points allowed, and are right at the top in turnovers forced and INTS. Since Trotter moved to the starting lineup the Eagles D is surrendering under 100 yds/game rushing, despite the fact that in the last month the Eagles have played a lot of backups late in the game to reduce the injury risk to starters.

The Eagles D is playing much better now than when the Vikes visited in week 2, which is understandable considering how many new players came to the team this year, and because Trotter is now the starter and is having an all-pro caliber year. Kearse may only have 7.5 sacks, but he has been an absolute terror moving around the D and applying pressure from everywhere. The double teams he's faced have allowed the other Eagles defenders to get the sacks that he creates.

Since Trotter moved to the starting lineup the Eagles have faced Tiki Barber, C.Portis Twice, J.Jones, Eddie George, and Ahman Green...some of the finest in the league.

Only Barber hit 100 yards, and only barber averaged more than 3.5yds a carry in that span.

I figure the Eagles have 7 players on defense that are playing at an all-pro level(not that they'll all make the pro-bowl, but that all of them are playing at that level).

FS B.Dawkins
SS M.Lewis
CB L.Sheppard
DE J.Kearse
MLB J.Trotter
SLB D.Jones
DT C.Simon

And there is also the fact that the Eagles running game is MUCH better than the statistics would lead one to believe. Reid just doesn't like to run, but regardless of the opponent when given the opportunity this year Westbrook has run extremely well, breaking off a lot of long runs. It's scary to think the kind of numbers he'd have put up this year if he'd been given 25 carries a game all season(he averages about 10).

Facing the Ravens, Redskins twice, Packers(who have an excellent run D, but that's about all), Westbrook has gone up against most of the Leagues top defenses, and he's averaged well over 4 yds/carry against all of them.

As for the Eagles D being no better than a few years ago...

B.Taylor is a nickel back in Seattle, that's how big an impact he's made for them. His replacement, Lito Sheppard, is a shoein for the pro-bowl, and has scored 2 touchdowns on INTs.

T.Vincent has been hurt all year for Buffalo(as he was the last two years with the Eagles), and his replacement S.Brown is a physical presence that has played very solid.

Trotter only played in the first NFC championship game in STL, and that's a game the Eagles nearly won on the road against one of the best offenses the NFL has ever seen. That Rams team was an offensive powerhouse.

Kearse was not with the Eagles for any of those championship runs, and SS Micheal Lewis is only in his second year as a starter, and has blossomed into probably the best SS in the NFC.

B.Dawkins was hurt for both of the last two NFC championship games, and did not play.

Last year, the Eagles did not have DE Hugh Douglass.

It's laughable to suggest this isn't the best Eagles defense since they began their dominance of the NFC.

Here's what the largest professional sports fan club in the world (Browns Backers) thinks about the NFC situation (sorry Vette, very little confidence in your team)...

"How many TD receptions do the entire rest of the Eagles team have now that TO is out? I don't see Westbrook getting half the success he had when TO was taking the opposing defense's time and he certainly isn't the power-back needed to run up the gut and run out the clock - that's how Dallas got as close as they did. The Eagles are still the best in the NFC but they are very beatable and it's the Vikes who pose the biggest threat to the Eagles 4th consecutive NFCC loss"

Just goes to show you how little you know about B.Westbrook.

He has six TD catches, and has had over 1000yds of offense for two years in a row. Last year, without TO, he scored 11 TDs and racked up almost 1300 total yds. This year he leads all NFL RBs in receptions, and has over 1300 total yards after 14 games.

Also, M.Johnson(former FB dallas cowboys, FOX analyst) comments everytime he sees the Eagles play that B.Westbrook is pound for pound one of the most powerful runners in the league.

Oh, and BTW, the Eagles other WR, Todd 'dont send me across the middle' Pinkston has a 18.8 yard average per catch- best in the NFC, and third in the NFL, and is having the best year of his career.

The Eagles just had TEN probowlers named today- FIVE on defense, including 3/4 of the starting secondary. The only starting Eagles DB that wont be STARTING in the Pro Bowl is Sheldon Brown.

BTW, Eagles 4 time all-pro safety B.Dawkins was just named by the sporting news as the hardest hitter in the NFL. :)

Eagles pro bowlers:

OFFENSE:

QB D. Mcnabb, 5th probowl.
WR T.Owens, 5th probowl.
T T.Thomas, 3d probowl.
K, D.Akers, 3d probowl

DEFENSE:

MLB J.Trotter, 3d probowl
FS B.Westbrook, 4th probowl
SS M.Lewis, 1st probowl
CB L.Sheppard, 1st probowl(in his 1st year as a starter)
OLB I.Reese, 1st probowl(NFC special teams special selection)
1st alternate, DE, J.Kearse, 5th probowl(technically the 1st alternate is not a probowler until one of the voted in players bows out or gets hurt, but the 1st alternate still goes to hawaii, and usually ends up on the probowl roster).

LOL....the Eagles Defense isn't that good...

From WH30's link:

"With Terrell Owens likely out for the playoffs, who's your pick to win the NFC?

Philadelphia 39.1 %
Atlanta 31.3 %
Green Bay 17.3 %
Seattle, St. Louis, or Carolina 7.0 %
Minnesota 5.2 "

LOL!!!! How bad is it that carolina and St Louis, and a team the Eagles beat by 30pts are above the Vikings?

Could it be that impartial football fans know the Vikings suck????

Hehehehehe.

Atlanta is my only real fear. Last time the Eagles played Atlanta in the playoffs FS B.Dawkins hit him harder than i've ever seen any player hit before....Vick had happy feet the rest of the game, and didn't try to run a single time after the hit.

Heheheh.

"Your screwed if you lose TO and your running back is your new #1 wide receiver as well! We'll see, but there is no doubt that the Vikes CAN as in have the ability to go to the Super Bowl and play well this year!"

LOL....well, 5% of the fans in the NFL agree with you.

And oh, what's the vikings record in outdoor games in the last 3 years? Oh, and also, when's the last time the Vikings actually won an outdoors playoff game on the road?

B.Westbrook is the glue that makes the Eagles offense go. I stated it on the NFL thread last year, and on page 1 of this thread this year. You'll note the ONLY game the Eagles lost this year was the game B.Westbrook missed....

TO had succesful surgery today, and said he WILL play in the Superbowl , period, end of story.

"The only way i dont play that game is if the training staff puts me in a straight jacket", Terrel Owens.

"That was a good thing, because the Eagles' last line of defense against the blitz is running back Brian Westbrook, who does almost everything well, except for pick up the loose pass-rushers."

I don't know what team that nitwit's been watching, Westbrook is one of the best pass blocking backs in the NFL....

LOL

"The Eagles have to rely upon their defense to win the games now and that's just the way it is. Look at how they looked once TO went out - a very mediocre Dallas played very well against them."

Ummm, did you see the monday night game this week?

2-11 Dolphins vs the 12-1 Patriots. Who won that game?

That Marine, is why they play the games.

I WANT the Vikings in the NFC championship game. It's the easiest possible opponent the Eagles could face, period. IT's a shame the Vikes have no prayer of actually making it to the NFC title game. :(

And it's also a good thing the Eagles have 6 defensive pro-bowlers, have surrendered the fewest points in the NFL, and have the most sacks in the NFL, huh?

And it seems to me that last year with no TO until B.Westbrook went down in week 17 that the Eagles were averaging almost 30pts a game...

As WH30 pointed out, it's the biggest NFL fan forum in the NFL.

"Let me reiterate: You couldn't stop Moss from scoring in the first meeting so what makes you think you can do it in the NFCC? The Falcons are well, a one trick pony with a decent at best defense, nothing any balanced, potent offense like the Vikings cannot overcome."

LOL!

Moss didnt score until there were 3 minutes left sport, and the game was already over by then...until moss scored it was 27-9.

LOL!

You kill me dude, you really do.

And if the Falcons D is just 'decent', what is the vikes d?

I'll tell you what....flat out BAD.

A. You just called me an assclown.
B. I'm not saying the Browns fans are the best, but they are. At the very least tied for the best.
C. Understand one thing: Browns fans love the Browns and hate EVERYONE else. I honestly could never see myself backing another team no matter what. What I'm trying to say is that the fans who visit that site are at the very least impartial to the NFC playoff situation.
D. Your comment about us judging talent is way out there and is voiced out of sheer frustration. Now I'm not saying the Vikes are as bad as the Browns, but the difference between me and you is that I love my team to death but know they suck. You love your team to death and don't know they suck.
E. Browns fans are rabid, among the most knowledgeable in the game.
F. The Vikings have talent but nowhere near the level of the Eagles across the board. After Culpepper and Moss there is nobody. The Eagles are solid across the board. The loss of T.O. hurts but I truly think they won't be hurt that badly by it. I mean look at what they did in the games where T.O. was subpar? They still won.
G. There's nobody else in the NFC. The Vikings defense is awful. The only team that stands a chance is Atlanta, who I'm secretly rooting for since my wife's from there. (Sorry Snipe)...

Cheers...
