Atlanta and Carolina (yes I think they make it) are my underdog teams for the NFC; the Eagles are obviously preferred even wo/ Owens.

I'm gonna say the Falcons knock out the Eagles and the Eagles lose another NFC Champ Game.

Then in the AFC I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Pats and Steelers, neither, makie it to the Bowl; the Chargers or Colts make it to the Bowl.

Sad day in Wisconsin. He brought the Packers respectability not to mention much, much, much, much more.

Wish the current defense had someone with his heart and abilities. ie someone who can change the complexion of a game single-handedly.

Wouldnt surprise me if flags are flown at 1/2 mast.

White played what were statistically his best 8 seasons here in Philadelphia, which was a treat for millions of Philadelphians.

He was a unique blend of power rusher, speed rusher, and run stopper.

His 198 career sacks is a record that will probably stand for a very long time.

On top of that, he was a great person.

RIP to the Minister of Defense.

Dont read too much into that game, the steelers really have nothing to play for, they've locked the AFC homefield up.

FIVE IMAGES OF THE 'MINISTER'

<img src="http://www.philly.com/images/philly/dailynews/10507/110399338526.jpg" border=0>

By PAUL VIGNA

vignap@phillynews.com

Reggie White's 8-year career as a member of the Eagles was a series of highlights. Here are five games that we remember vividly:

---

Sept. 29, 1985

Veterans Stadium

Giants 16, Eagles 10, OT

The memory: It was White's debut, and he made it memorable, recording 10 tackles and 2 ½ sacks against the Giants.

What we wrote: He also tipped a pass that cornerback Herman Edwards intercepted and returned for the Eagles' only touchdown. By the fourth quarter, the crowd was chanting the big guy's name. Reg-gie, Reg-gie... A new era in Eagles football was born.

- Ray Didinger, Daily News sports writer

What was said: "I think [the players] all were taken aback at just how dominant Reggie was. We had heard his name and read good things about him, but most of us took a wait-and-see attitude. Once he stepped on the field, though, it was clear he was something special. I remember standing on the sidelines, watching that [Giants] game and thinking: 'Boy, I'm glad this guy is on our side.' "

- Eagles TE John Spagnola

---

Sept. 13, 1987

RFK Stadium

Washington 34, Eagles 24

The memory: White knocked out quarterback Jay Schroeder with a hit early in the game, then pulled the ball out of quarterback Doug Williams' hands late in the third quarter and ran 70 yards for a score. He also knocked center Russ Grimm out of the game with a second-quarter tackle.

What was said: "I knew they wouldn't catch Reggie. The man is fast. He's a big-play guy and that was a big play."

- Eagles LB Dwayne Jiles

What White said: "I felt fasssst. I saw that end zone, I was determined to get there. Praise Jesus, I got there. Be sure and put that in there. I scored a touchdown in Memphis, also on a fumble recovery. But this was as far as I've ever run."

---

Dec. 18, 1988

Texas Stadium

Eagles 23, Dallas 7

The memory: White chased quarterback Steve Pelluer all over Texas Stadium, sacking him twice. He also had a game-high 10 tackles in a game that clinched the NFC East title for the Birds.

What we wrote: All game long White (two sacks, to lead the NFL with 18) and the rest of the defensive line ravaged the Dallas offensive line and had quarterback Steve Pelluer scampering like a rabbit. The offense, while not all-powerful, chugged along respectably enough... And it was the consensus opinion of the Eagles that this is the way things will go as long as their season continues. Anything is possible when Buddy Ryan is your coach and Lady Luck is your mistress and Reggie White is eating people alive...

- Tim Kawakami, Daily News sports writer

What White said: ""We wanted to get it for Buddy [Ryan]. He's worked hard at it. He's been under a lot of fire by a lot of people. But he deserves it. And we did it for him."

---

Oct. 25, 1992

Veterans Stadium

Eagles 7, Phoenix 3

The memory: This is the game best remembered for the famous goal-line stand, when the Cardinals were stopped from scoring on seven chances inside the 3. Six of those opportunities came from a yard away. White and linebacker Seth Joyner stopped the last one, knocking back running back Johnny Bailey.

What White said: "I wanted them to come toward me, and they did. That play, he gave me the inside, and I went inside. Everybody kept their concentration... . I'm surprised they didn't try a field goal. Shutting them down on fourth-and-1 had to take everything out of them."

---

Jan. 3, 1993

Louisiana Superdome

Eagles 36, New Orleans 20

The memory: The Eagles never had won a playoff game during White's tenure in Philly, but that streak ended at the Louisiana Superdome. White had a hand in the victory, tackling quarterback Bobby Hebert in the end zone for a safety, giving the Eagles a 26-20 lead. Earlier, he stuffed a run to keep the Saints from building on a 20-10 lead.

What we wrote: A touchdown and we may not have heard from the Eagles again. The give is to Vaughn Dunbar up the middle. Eagles end Reggie White, stunting with Mike Golic, collapses the pocket and forces Dunbar to cut outside. Ken Rose, in on short yardage, fills the gap, gets a piece of Dunbar. Just as Dunbar lowers to drive for the first down, William Frizzell drills him, knocking his legs out from under him, stopping him shy of the sticks. The Saints' offense was never the same. It was one of two great plays by White when it counted. The second was a fourth-quarter safety that made it 26-20.
Kevin Mulligan, Daily News sports writer What White said: "When we got the safety I knew we won. I knew that was it."

I was throuroghly irked when i found out the Eagles weren't goning to play anyone for tonight's game until i started actually watching the game.

It's pretty amusing watching the Rams flail away with do or die desperation against all the Eagles back ups, and still only being able to manage 10pts in the first half.

LOL...that team is sad.

Not even sure if i'm going to watch the end of the game. Any kind of decent team would score 30 on the Eagles with all the backups they're playing.

McNabb 1 series, Westbrook in civilian clothes, Kearese not playing a snap, Dawkins, Sheppard, and Brown out after the first series, and the starters that are playing still are only playing in the redzone.

BTW, Martz is about the biggest idiot in the world. Reid trying to kneel down to run out the clock in the first half to avoid injuries, and the idiot mad scientist calling timeouts to stop the clock.

Hey mike...moron...when you have 2 to's and the other team has a fist down and there's 36 seconds left in the half you um....cant stop the clock cuz.

Duh.

Watching the Rams ineptitude against the Eagles backups, i can say with firm conviction that they have no right to play in the playoffs.

They suck.

Reid i guess was vindicated in his decision not to play ANY starters after the 1st Quarter though, seeing 4th string running back T.Tapeh get carted off the field with 28 secs left.

24-10, Vikings at the half. Winner plays the Owens-less Eagles next week, so unfortunately Philly won't get to host the Vikes for the NFC title.

Now I just gotta keep my fingers crossed that Mike Tice replaces the Minnesota players with another team for the 4th quarter... GB has had a nasty habit of choking out the Vikes this season.

And it's official. Sniper, get out your four-leaf clover and lucky rabbit's foot.

The Vikings' defense played like it hasn't done all year long, and if they carry that momentum into next weekend's matchup against the #1 seed in the NFC, Philly could say an early goodbye to their well-deserved and hard-earned homefield advantage.

As much as I desperately hope that the Vikes win over McNabb and the Eagles, I'm not trying to live in a fantasy world. This is going to be the toughest game of the year for Minnesota, regardless of the fact that T.O. is sidelined. McNabb, Westbrook and crew on one side of the pigskin (I'll leave Pinkston to the critics), and Kearse and Co. on the other... a great lineup from all sides for Philly, and a tough team to matchup against for the Vikes.

Overall I hope to see (and expect) a well-played game, large offensive plays and lots of scoring. I'm definitely gonna be sporting all of my "Purple People Eater" gear and rooting for my Vikes, but only 60 minutes next weekend will decide the fate of two teams.

Good luck, Snipe... and all the other Philly fans. May the best team win.

LOL, hold on to those hopes and dreams bro, for as long as you can.

Come 4 o'clock sunday you'll realize there's a reason the Vikings were the 6 seed, and the Eagles the 1 seed.

The Vikes don't have a shot, a prayer, or otherwise. :)

But it's nice to see all that unfounded optimism.

I can't help but wonder if the defenders of Omaha beach felt that way on June 5th, 1943.

Hmmmmmmm..........

LOL

On a serious note, if the Eagles show up rusty and stupid, the Vikes have the offense to make them pay. But i don't think you'll see McNabb tossing 4 picks and the Eagles shooting themselves in the foot all game long, cause the Eagles just don't shoot themselves in the foot.

Eagles 28-17.

Hey, man... at this point in the year, and with the Vikings' track record for blowing away their own playoff chances, AND the fact that they're playing against the #1 seed, hope's about all I've got left.

All I'm asking is that the 1st quarter Vikings from Sunday's game show up again in Philly this weekend. The rest will play itself out however it's gonna end. Good game whatever the outcome.

I must admit, there is a lot of trepidation in Philly that the Eagles will come out rusty because Reid shut them down for so long.

However, i look at Reid's record coming off bye weeks- 10-0 -and it makes all that worrying stop for me. :)

Defense.

Teams without defense are roadkill in the NFL playoffs.

Today, just like the Colts, the Vikings were roadkill.

I think the Atlanta/Philly game is going to be a very good game...the Patriot/Steelers game...I could care less...I hate New England so I'll be pulling for the Steelers.....and only living an hour south of Atlanta I'm pulling for the Falcons....time will tell...
