There is no such thing as an official patch. Patches are pieces of cloth worn on clothing, the only things that are official are emblems.

I can't view the patch in question, the Army doesn't let it come through here.

xflip97esales has a history of selling repro patches, but I think a recent posting on USAFpatches.com concerning illegally reproduced USAF patches (citing USC Code Title 18, Section 701 and Code of Federal Regulations Title 32, Part 507; although I have never heard of anyone being pursued under these laws) may have scared him to start producing his own (hence this patch). But to his credit he does offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee, and has 100% positive feedback from 3350 transactions.

So would I be correct in saying the patch I'm having made for the PE program is the offical patch of the A-10 System Program Office and the Precision Engagement team if it's the patch they use? What would a patch be called if it was made but none of the members of a "team" like PE or even a pro football team for that matter had ever seen or heard of it?

I know a patch is only a piece of cloth but if it's make for a specific group or event, and only used by that group or for that event.......doesn't that make if "offical"?

Dice

The answers you seek can be found here...

Code of Federal Regulations can be accessed here (search for "32CFR507"): http://www.gpoaccess.gov/cfr/index.html

U.S. Code can be accessed here (search for "18USC701"): http://www.gpoaccess.gov/uscode/index.html

It is just a matter of finding them! <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

More from USAFpatches.com...

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Just for everyone's clarification--"official" emblems are those that have been approved and are on-file at the Air Force Historical Research Agency. "Unofficial" emblems are generally not covered by US Code or CFR. This does not mean however that unofficial patches are not protected from reproduction--standard copyright and trademark laws can still apply.<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

Thanks M2, I even dropped by and read a few threads on USAFpatches.com and learned a thing or two! I guess my patch would be the un-official PE patch!

Dice, your patch will be the official unofficial patch!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle>

So, you have trouble. We all have trouble. Build a bridge and get over it.
