Hey guys hoping for a little help here. I'm looking to trade in my 1996 Ford Explorer, Limited 4x4 for something smaller and sporty to go along with my Porsche and be my daily driver.

I've always loved the Chevy Monte Carlo Supercharged SS, but $30,000 is a bit ot of my price range for now. I've recently been checking out the 5 speed Dodge SRT4 with the turbo charged 4 cyl engine.

Anyone ever driven one of these that might be able to offer some helpful advice?

Oh and here is the rest of the info if your not familiar with the SRT4

2.4-liter turbocharged 16-valve double overhead camshaft engine
230 horsepower
250 lb-ft of torque
Zero to 60 in around 5.8 seconds

any thoughts?

Well you want something small & sporty? At the risk of the gearheads laughing at me, a ragtop GTO perhaps?

I have to go with Hogmender, that thing is hideous. And LOVED the vid he linked. :)

Christ, for 20k you could buy a lot of VERY cool cars.

New cars are a suckers bet.

You'd be better off with a 97 Eclipse GSX turbo for oh...half the price.

I had one.

I'm pretty confident it would've eaten an SRT-4 for breakfast.

Wow Quite Impressive Snipe! I like that Eclipse......in fact i believe that i have a picture of my car in that exact same spot in the driveway!

How is it that you have (or had) all of the vehicles that i tend to fall in love with........... Guess i have so much more to learn. I beg you for more car knowledge oh wise one

I'm working on the manual trans driving as we speak. I actually spent some of today and yesterday learning (for the 1st time). I really do like it, and really want my next vehicle to be a 5 speed, but i need more practice.

I'm pretty good with the driving/shifting as long as i don't have to stop and restart (like at traffic lights) guess i just don't have that coordination down just yet, and i'm not to sure of the burning clutch smell.

Thanks for all the helpful advice!

I've owned three eclipses, the most problems i ever had with any of them was a bad alternator, and had a clutch go once(EASY job though...as far as clutches go).

That's in about 50,000 total miles between the three of em.

The AWD models have problems though...stay away from those.

I've got an Eclipse too, for seven years. It's a Spyder though and has the 2.4l SOHC 4 valve/cyl sedan motor in it. It's OK at 75k miles. I only change the oil in it.

I rented an Eclipse while TDY in San Diego one summer. It ran fine, was fun to drive...until I took it in for routine maintenance (at their request). "Don't sweat the dash light, it'll go off eventually". Eventually was the next day when the engine seized- on the San Diego Freeway. Seems the idiot forgot to put the oil filler cap back on.

NOT what I was thinking, at the time!!

Of course there was an up-side...I got a 5.0 Mustang GT as a replacement, for the same rate. Had lots of fun doing things with that car I couldn't do with the Eclipse.

Heather, my old repo partner is currently selling his PRISTINE 1991 Mustang GT 5spd for six thousand.

Lemme know if you're interested, the car is in show-room condition.

Hmmm, sounds tempting Snipe and Mudd and quite fun!

Unfortunately i am not really confident driving a 5 speed on my own yet (i've only had 2 "lessons" ) i need some more work to get this down!

I will however keep it in mind!

Snipe, if you keep your eye out for me and see something you think i would like (you seem to know exactly what i want in cars....hot looking and fast!)feel free to let me know.
