I did a tour at the Richard Petty driving school at the Disney Speedway in Orlando last week. The clock must be broken because it says I am pathetically slow. How can this be? It must have been the pace car slowing me down. Anyway, it was a hoot. The next day I was riding in a CAP-10 aerobatic plane hanging in the straps. It was better than the Incredible Hulk roller coaster at Universal. Good trip.

I would love to do that one day........since Disney is a bit far from my place, i might be tempted to try the one at Dover Downs Speedway in Delaware!

I did that same thing a little over a year ago, same track and all, except I got to drive the best damned car there... the #20 Chevy! I agree though, it didn't seem as fast as I was really going (105 felt like 55), but was still <i>quite</i> a blast.

There is a ride along program that is on the track concurrent with the students. The professional drivers hit top speeds of 145 with the same cars the students drive. I only did 118. Here's another picture of J. Edgar Goober in the driver's seat (You might be a redneck if...). The head restraints prevent rotating your face towards the camera, adding to the impression that the driver may be in fear of hitting the wall momentarily. I think I learned the secret of going fast on my last lap...Point it and Punch it. The pace car shows you the line so if you just try to rear end him you will be going fast.
