Is there a possibilty that the 30mm rounds were supposed to be used for another 30mm gun, like the AH64 ? Just curious if the same manufacturer makes the munitions and if they somehow got shipped ? Doesnt really matter because the damn things worked and hopefully shagged a lot of black hatted villains.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

I fired some red-ish HEI rounds at Spang a few years ago. They were not the bright red like in the pic, but they were certainly more red than green.

I have 3 red shells from Bagram. I had no idea at the time that red shells were unique.
They say the same as Hitlers, but I read a few digits differently, could just be me though (like confusing a D for a 0, or a B for a D, that kind of thing.)

I read mine as follows:
28109580-001P
30MM HEI PGU-13/B
Ol-2B-20-77

2B107310-L
USE 3-4-77

FYI, the rounds the 355th (Eielson) fired over there recently were all green. I saw someone carring a giant bag full of them in the AMU the other day and he said they were from the desert

Without ME, it's just AWESO

2002 timeframe was when we had the Red 30MM rounds in our jets at Bagram.

Just regular HEI from what I remember. Although the SOB's @ Al Jabber wouldn't let us take them home with us a few of them mad it back.

Recently though (last time at "The Bag" was Nov 2003-Apr 2004) we had all green rounds. Hope that helps a little.

We think (still looking into it) the PGU-13B mean it was one of a few lots of tracer rounds bought from 1973-179 which were used during gun testing. The red case color was insure the round was not loaded into a combat aircraft by mistake.

Hitler, you may had a colloctors item there.

Dice, this may ring a bell with you. Quite a ways back (prob atleast 2 yrs), I posted a pic of a purple shell casing. It been a while, but what i remember was it had something to do with it special ammo used for early testing. I searched for the pic, but have lost alot of files since then. So now we have green, red and purple...whats the next color thats gonna pop up <img src=newicons/tard.gif border=0 align=middle>
