I got an A10 tonight. I really can't believe it, we were told that there wern't any avil. So I'm still on cloud nine... It's unreal. On another note, I've heard that IFF is going to be super tuff. Know where I can find the gouge?

Hey MM, CONGRATS!!! That's my dream plane!

I went through IFF @ Randolph a few years ago. The other guys here can tell you more about the air to mud part... but the hog guy in my class had no trouble.

Just remember nose position in dbfm!! Oh, and don't fukk up the comm or pattern at the range. I honestly don't know of any gouge...

Good luck!!

Most excellant, MM! Congrats!

So, you have trouble. We all have trouble. Build a bridge and get over it.

Congrats!! Your gonna love the hog. I went through IFF a few months ago at Moody, I might be able to help you out. There's not much you really need to know before you get there. Drop me an email and I'll answer any questions you have.

IFF = Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals.

There is no "gouge", the solution is up to you. To pay attention, study and fly aggressively is the gouge. Yes, it should be "super tuff", because it's is the first step in being a fighter pilot. It is spring training for fighter pilots. Be a sponge; listen and learn, keep your pie hole shut and soak up everything you can. You are not a fighter pilot yet and you won't be an ATTACK pilot until you prove yourself at an operational squadron.

Congratulations and good luck!

Coach

Advice for IFF.....Hmmm.....my advice to you is to start drinking heavily....But after that, don't fuck up the shit they teach you in UPT, don't break the jet, and don't run out of gas.

I have heard that most guys hook for the basics. I just got a copy of the sq standards and a bunch of unclassified threat stuff. I think that should be enough to get started.

It's a fighter pilot initiation course. Attitude is everything. Be willing to learn, don't speak unless you're spoken to, be where lead told you to be, do what he told you to do, never make excuses. Your only excuse should be, "I screwed up and it won't happen again."

lol... that's a good starting point... but at the same time, don't take any sh*t. But use discretion... you're still a student.

Mighty Mouse

Congrats on selection to the A-10, I may just be a avionics maintenance monkey but my advice would be take it easy on the enlisted guys out there because we have enough shit going on to make us crazy enough already.
Still, very envious...been working the bird for 12 years and get super jealous every time I see you guys roll out of chalks because I would kill to be in that seat instead of you.

Chili, good advise. But don't worry bro, I'll take it easy on the crew dogs. I was a grease monkey for a couple years before I got an ROTC scholarship. I remember those longs days/nights turning wrenches, then some a-hole pilot comes out and rips your ass because the forms arent completely cleaned up or some stupid shit. So needless to say, I will always treat crewchiefs with respect because I know what its like. Are hog drivers typically pretty cool to you guys?

I can't speak for the present...but when I was in I would say most are ok...a few are dicks...and a few were really cool...I remember two (both stationed with me at Moody & Osan)....Hell...I was happier to launch out the General than a Lieutenant....

Yup, that's how I'd put it. Just make sure if (well, realistically when) you forget or lose something in the cockpit you know what the Crew Chief drinks. Welshing on that kind of thing won't exactly make you the most popular pilot in the squadron
