*sniff sniff*

What's that smell??

*sniff sniff*

Is that... roast eagle???

Okay, okay, that was wrong... honestly, Philly played a helluva game and probably gave NE more of a scare than they wanted (they keep up with the winning by 3 pts...??), but it just wasn't enough to take it over the top.

Personally I think it was just the lack of experience in the title game that made the difference here. Philly brought it all today, but McNabb was obviously unsure in a lot of his pocket situations, and they didn't have him running the ball at ALL. If they're tight enough to make it again next year, I'd be willing to bet on the Eagles taking home rings.

Sorry, Snipe... maybe next year.

Philly has a young and talented team, they will remain in the thick of things in the seasons to come...

The difference in that game was the QB...
I thought Charlie Weiss adapted his game plan well, throwing screens to negate the Philly Blitz, which was doing a good job of pressuring Tom Brady...

Brady is something special...

Hats off to Terrell Owens, he overcame the odds and was a force in that game, I just felt Philly did a poor job of clock management late; tough to pin your hopes on the probability of recovering an onside kick...Game was well worth its billing, maybe we will see a re match next season...

I hope Snipe didn't take it to hard...After my Raiders where publicly flogged two seasons ago I went into a drunken stuper for 90 days and 91 nights....He has no reason to be ashamed of the effort Philly put up yesterday, the game could have gone either way...Unlike Oakland getting destroyed by my old coach...

Nope, i'm here, and i'm fine.

Just needed some time to get my thoughts in order about the game.

A few points:

The Eagles dominated the first quarter and a half, and killed themselves with the first red zone McNabb interception. He made the right read, he was just late delivering the ball, and put too much air under it(a good throw delivered in a timely manner and that's a Westbrook TD, simple as that).

I thought that early the Eagles D had Brady clearly confused, and the Eagles were able to adjust to the Pats coming out in a 4-3 defense, after the first series.

The Eagles O really missed an opportunity to open a nice lead early, and squandered the chance to go up by double digits. If the eagles had gone up by 10, as they should have....we're probably having a parade here tommorow.

Say la vie.

I thought the defense played very well, and considering the number of turnovers, did a fantastic job in holding the Pats to 24 pts.

I found it interesting that the Pats were unable to contain either Westbrook or Owens, and felt that Pinkston missed a few opportunities on deep balls besides the one he did catch. I was pleased that Reid stuck to the run, even though it was largely innefective, it still makes play action effective and keeps the opposing defense honest.

Reid drew up what i felt was an excellent offensive game plan, but a few key drops and a few very poor decisions by McNabb were what really cost the Eagles.

I am a bit torn about McNabb, at times he played brilliantly, but on two passes he basicly took away the Eagles chance to win.(I don't blame him for the 3d INT, because it bounced off of LJ Smith's hands).

I was really irked at the Eagles lack of a sense of urgency on their final TD drive, but in retrospect, McNabb was clearly rattled after he threw the second INT(the one that sealed the game, for all intents and purposes), and Reid wanted to make sure he calmed him down and therefore kept the pace slow to prevent McNabb from making any further errors in his haste.

This game was definitely a learning experience for Mr. McNabb, one that he will hopefully make good use of.

When the Eagles scored there was 1:47 seconds left, and the boys in green still had two Time outs left. I felt that the Eagles should've kicked off deep instead of the on-sides. There was still time to stop the Pats on a 3 and out(as the eagles did), but the Eagles would've gotten the ball in much better field position.

But that's all spilled milk.

I felt that the two best teams in the NFL put on one hell of a display last night, and it was one hell of a superbowl...close until the final seconds. What more can a football fan ask for?

The one REAL shame about this game is that TO's performance had the Eagles won would've become the stuff of NFL legend.

There are no words to describe the way that man played last night, against the Pats excellent defense, just six weeks removed from major surgery.

Earlier in this thread Big Vette asked who was the better reciever, Owens or Moss?

I think that question was clearly answered last night.

Owens is an all-time great, it's as simple as that.

The man is a warrior.

BTW, anyone who thinks the Eagles won't be in Detroit for Super Bowl forty next year is deluded(Vikings fans)... ;)

The Pats will have a tougher go of it because they'll be losing their two coordinators, but it would not at all surprise me to see them back again next year as well.

They are a rightful dynasty, and they earned their crown(even if McNabb did help them quite a bit) against the toughest possible championship opponent. Kudos to them.

Going into next season the Eagles are 18 million under the cap, and have five draft picks in the first 3rds alone. Trotter stated flat out last night he will be back with the Eagles next year.

With TO and Kearse(who was struck with the flu and was sadly not at full speed for last night's game) playing in their second year with the Eagles, and with the young corners having a full season starting under their belt, they should be even better next year.

If the Pats are a dynasty(and they are), the Eagles are an 'Almosty'. ;)

To clarify, the difference between a 'dynasty' and an 'almosty':

3 rings and 3 Lombardi trophies.

And yes, Sniper, we "deluded Vikings fans" are always gonna think that our team's gonna make it... next year. We're great at making the playoffs... it's just that we're also great at choking in the 1st or 2nd round.

Maybe the Vikes are an "almost-almosty"?

The Eagles re-signed Trotter for 5 years, and Douglass for one year at the league minumum last week.

All the pieces are back in place for another run.

See you football nuts next year. ;)

What does everyone think of the Randy Moss trade? Me thinx that Kerry Collins to Randy Moss is the 2005 version of Jay Schroeder to Willie Gault...Didn't work then, won't work now...Anyone who thinks the vertical offense will again be envouge is delerious and ignoring the fact that most NFL defense's have a tremendous pass rush, and deceptive zone defense's...Extinct shut down corner notwithstanding, the vertical offense will not work in todays NFL, just like it didn't work in the post 1984 NFL either. Al Davis, I will say it again is a friggin moron, in fact let it be known right here, and right now I am no longer a Raiders fan as long as that sick demented bastard is still vertical.

I would love to build an NFL Team with talent that Al Davis tossed asside...

Head Coach: Jon Gruden or Mike Shanahan...3 Super Bowl Victories between them. Shanahan's Bronco's have beat the Raiders like a drum the last 10 years, Gruden took the Raiders apart in the Super Bowl. By the way, how many Super Bowls has that gereatric sadistic MOTHER F#%$ER won since the Reagan Administration...NONE!

QB...Rich Gannon, or Steve Buerlien. Al Davis choose to get rid of both for the proverbial million dollar arm, ten cent head QB that has the IQ of room temperature. Not to mention dumping Jeff Hostetler for Jeff "Boy" George...

RB...Marcus Allen...Need I say more, he still made the hall of fame despite the fact 5 years of his prime where wasted on the bench because of that sunglasses wearing S.O.B...

OL...Jim Lachey, a perenial Pro Bowler was trade bait for Jay (I need a shrink after my 5 int performance in the 1991 AFC Chamipnship game) Schroeder.

WR...James Lofton, Freddy Belitnekoff...Both had good years left in the tank, but where cut for the likes of Morris Bradshw, and Raghib Ismail.

Defensive Backs...Vann McElroy. Intregal member of the 1983 Super Bowl team had plenty of good years left, before Al Davis benched because of all things, Vann wanted to be paid the same as scab team strike hold over Eddie Anderson.

The tyrade can go on and on, but does anybody really care?

Who did the Vikes get for Moss? Anyone know?

I missed it.

ditto, Davis is a glittering jewel of ignorance.
As for Moss, seems like the Raiders is the perfect place for the mal-content. Never liked him, never will.

Lol Sniper and I am single too. I am in San Francisco, but moving to the east bay. I love Raider games. I am a seasonal tickets holder for the Raiders and Warriors. I am floor seats for the Warriors. I have met Jerry Porter and Charles Woodson at a special party. Fun times! Walker and Gibson golf where I do, chatted with them a bit.

I stay away from women in the Bay Area...For good reason. Enuff said there. Besides the Nazi Ex as far as I know still lurks in that underworld.

Raiders last chance at greatness untill Al Davis croaks was with Jon Gruden coaching the team. Love him or hate him, he was a difference maker in Oakland. As far as Network Associates Coliseum...If I wanted to see the animals I would visit the zoo...Those fans make me embarrassed to root for the Raiders, not that Al Davis does not do a good job of that as it is...

Snipe, Raiders traded their seventh pick in the first round, and a under achieving but talented linebacker named Napoleon Harris, whom they drafted in the first round a few years ago, and has proven to be a bust. Ironicaly they cut the heart and soul of their defense in MLB Greg Biekert for Harris; Biekert ended up playing for the Vikes, and played some good ball I might add....

Harris has a lot of speed and talent.

Could be all he needed was a change of scenery.

Good luck with Moss, you'll need it methinx.

Nazi Ex? wow someone is a hater. I love watching Porter play. He is a very talented player. I was at a game last season and he had the crowd going insane. I just wish the whole QB situation would get resolved. Collins pissed off alot of fans last season.

Harris has the physical attributes to be a great NFL LB...I question his intelligence, but that may come with time, experience, and like you said a change of scenery...

Moss and Sebastien Janikowski will make a good pair in Oakland...Only two players I have ever heard of that have an incentive clause in their contracts that rewards them for staying out of jail...Raiders will be a higher priced version of this years undisciplined, stupid mistake prone squad, only they will make it interesting next year by making a few more big plays before they are called back because of a penalty...Adding Moss by no means makes them a contender, or even a .500 ballclub, I have seen this shit too many times.

The QB situation sux, Rich Gannon brought the Raiders QB position to an elite level never before seen in Oakland. Kenny Stabler didn't even play the position of QB as good as Gannon in Oakland, though he did win a Championship....Something Gannon never did, though I don't blame Gannon for the ambush Al Davis put him in two years ago. Kerry Collins is not the answer, Marques Tuiassasopo could be with time.

A hater? me? naw...When you hate somone you actually think about them. I don't...

Valid point, I agree. Tui would be good over time. The games are very fun to attend. I had a few wild games that I woke up on my couch wondering just what had happened. I take BART over to the east bay, which most do from SF. It is funny because everyone is sober to start, but it is a drunk tank on the way back over to San Francisco. This next season I will be living on the east bay, so my new commuting method to the games will have to change drastically.

Monday Night Football going to ESPN
AP: The NFL's "Monday Night Football," a hallmark of television sports programming since the days of Howard Cosell, is leaving ABC after 35 years for ESPN starting with the 2006 season.
The NFL's new broadcast deal also brings football back to NBC for the first time in six years. NBC will take over the Sunday night games previously broadcast on ESPN, and plans to use a flexible scheduling model that ensures meaningful games will played in that slot late in the season.

The Monday night move to basic cable, which includes an earlier start time of 8:40 p.m. eastern, is expected to cost ESPN $1.1 billion over eight years, two sources familiar with the deals told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

NBC will get the Sunday night package for $600 million over six years, according to the sources. The network will also get the Super Bowl in 2009 and 2012 as part of the deal, one of the sources said.

The NFL will continue to show all cable games on free, over-the air television in home markets. That means that local stations will carry ESPN's Monday night games in the cities of the teams involved.

The moves leave ABC -- which reshaped sports broadcasting by turning football into a prime-time ratings draw with the advent of "Monday Night Football" in 1970 -- as the only major network without NFL football.

ABC and ESPN are both subsidiaries of The Walt Disney Co. The deal with ESPN, which currently carries games every Sunday night and sometimes on Thursday, was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

"A great deal with the NFL is the best deal you can get in television," said NBC sports chairman Dick Ebersol. He said the network hasn't started working on finding anchors for the Sunday night broadcast.

"We're celebrating for a day," Ebersol said. "Then I'm sure we'll get a lot of calls."

Last month, NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue said during the NFL meetings in Hawaii that the Monday night move was a strong possibility. ABC, which has been losing money on the package despite high ratings, had been balking at the NFL's asking price.

NBC has been struggling in prime-time this season, and even risks an unprecedented fall into fourth place in the ratings. ABC's newfound ratings strength with "Desperate Housewives" on Sunday nights has been particularly damaging.

NBC will devote its entire Sunday night prime-time lineup to the NFL. The Sunday night games will start at 8:15 p.m. eastern and include flexible scheduling for the final seven weeks of the season, details of which will be developed by the league.

That issue has become more pressing since parity caused by the salary cap has resulted in teams moving up and down the standings annually, leaving bad teams that were strong the previous season in prime time and good teams that were bad the past season off of it.

CBS and Fox already have agreed to pay a total of $8 billion over six years for the rights to Sunday afternoon games.

The NFL is still considering an eight game late-season package of Thursday and Saturday night games on cable and satellite. Tagliabue has said the NFL's own new network could show some or all of those games.

Associated Press Writer David Bauder also contributed to this report.
