Today are concerts, parades with veterans and many more rememberance in the whole country.

Today is the Holocaust Memorial day, next Tuesday night/Wednesday is Memorial day, and Wednesday night/Thursday is our Independence Day, all according to the Hebrew calender.

All that & the entire week is dedicated to VE Day.

They coulda killed two birds with one stone last Saturday aka "Veteran Appreciation Day" Corona, Dos Xxx & Nacho's w/ World War Two Vets. But oh well...there's a three day WW2 event up in Reading, and possibly a chance to challenge a Patton impersonater to a "who can stand the most hot sauce challenge" <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

To everybody. Nevermind that you interupt the topic. The issue is that you read it, think over it and than relise that is imported to remember. And never mind wich war/conflict you remember. But stand still and never forgot what other people do or did for your freedom.

It's a Mexican Holiday remembering a Mexican victory over the French during the Napoleonic age. It's been adopted by some of the latin american countries and the United States. We German and Irish Americans picked it up as another excuse to get plowed.

Are there places aside from Israel where the sirens ring and the whole country shuts down and remembers?

The UK has an official silence on Rememberence Day, 11th Noveber at 11:00

Easy for me to remember as it's the old mans birthday...

November 11th is also a Belgium Remembrance Day. I go now for the last years to Ieper (English: Ypres) for it. And I think more countries has that date as a Remembrance date. It was the end of the "Great War".

Your "old" man is he very old?

He's 79 now and getting on in years. But he's a stuborn old Polishman so we'll have him around for a while yet.

After being forced into a train at rifle point in the middle of the night, he spent a few months chopping down trees in a Siberian Labour camp.

He was released after the Russian - Polish pact was signed and joined the Polish Second Corps under General W³adys³aw Anders and went through Iran, Iraq and Palestine before crossing the Med and ending up at Monte Cassino where he was one of the first troops to reach the monastery.

So he's seen a bit of the world...
