I want to skin the new Spang scheme and came across this picture. M2, does the 52 OG plane still have the 3 bolts on each tail stab?

http://x-plane.org/home/topgun/tempfiles/52OG.jpg

With the pilots names, pantherhead and all door art removed, I can easily skin this with just a little research and posts from the SP unit in Lakenheath.

Thanks for your help!

The 3 bolts on 81-992's tail are gone.
80-0281's bolts are also removed

I thought Spang has last year changed their colours. I was their on a base tour and what I saw was allready new painted. Those coloured thunderlights are not on eacht Warthog (maybe now, but nog last year).

yeah, I have seen those pics, that's where I'm getting my reference shots. I just didn't see the CO's aircraft and the pic I posted has the new stab paint, but I was wondering about the 3 color lightning bolts.

Those coloured lighting bolts are used by the commander, not every plane I think. I don't see it on each plane of Spangdahlem.

only 81-0992 and 80-0281 had lightning bolts....but the bolts are gone like i said. The picture of 992 is taken before the whole tail was repainted. 992 was present at lakenheath last month though.. (without the bolts)

Visiting with the great folks at the Panthers.

Unfortunately, I forgot the pics, so it will have to wait until Monday. PCS'ing sucks!

By the way, just from memory, all of the Spang Hogs had yellow tabs with a lightning bolt in them on the stabs, as shown on 992 above, except for the sqn/cc jet, which had a Panther head instead of the lightning bolt and with '81 FS' instead of the '52 OG.'

I don't believe there is an OG jet anymore...

Well, I found I could use my data stick to transfer the pics I took at Spang last week, but the Army is blocking PhotoBucket from the hotel computers!

So, until I get into the office, I can't post any pics. However, I can confirm my earlier comments concerning the Spang paint schemes...the jets look just like the 52 OG jet above, except the yellow, blue and red lightning bolts do not exists and the 'SP' shadowing is gray (it looks white in the above pic). Also, the 81 FS/CC jet (80-281) has the Panther head instead of the lightning bolt at the top of the stab. I have a great pic of the entire stab from -281 I will post when I can...

Cheers! M2

One other thing, I noticed you said that the pilot's names have been removed from the aircraft...that's not entirely true. I have a few pics of jets--besides the sqn/cc's jet--that have the pilot's and crew chiefs' names on the left side of the jet, just forward of the cockpit (-654, -988, -983). But others (such as -978, the old 78 TFS/CC jet, and -985) do not. Of course Buster's jet does have his name on the side...

OK, one last post. I can confirm that the only jet that still has the Panther head on the cowling is the one on a stick. Also, all door art is gone. There may be an extra door or two hidden away that has art on it, but for the most part none of the jets that we saw had any.

Cheers! M2

Another chapter in the door art saga ends. Sounds like he's having them put back into reg which has never allowed either door art or the panther on the cowls. O'well now we have another "plan Jane" A-10 unit with no distintive markings.....shame really...
