Well , I was sunbathing on Navodari beach in Romania yesterday around 5 o'clock when I see 2 A-10s flying over the beach . At first I was extatic , but then my curiosity got the better of me . Does anyone know where they came from or where they are going ? Someone on another forum suggested they're from Germany(Spangdalhelm(sp?)) or Italy (Aviano) and that they were in transit to the middle east . However , today , roughly around the same hour another A-10 buzzed the beach , heading in the same dirrection and then turning west(ish). I know there's a Romanian Navy firing range (Cape Midia) somewhere around here , but they're allways flying in the opposite dirrection !
(EDIT : Spelling)

What color were they ? Were they the standard NATO grey or were they the super modified funny stealthy top fuel black models ? 'Cause those top fuel models come with the pilots that sport a kung fu grip.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

Grey... Or green... Or greyish green... Can't really tell ,the sun was in my eyes but they seemed to be green (well, dark green , khaki)
And I just saw another 2 while heading here ...

(Edit : No, wait , they couldn't have been green , could they ? That would mean they're from the National Guard , right ?)

There are no European Lizard Green Warthogs anymore. Every plane is Grey. Sorry, only Green ones are in shelters for weaponloaders for training with loading and mechanics to test things but they never fly again. In Spangdahlem they have one Green in a shelter. About that "funny stealthy top" don't know what that is, curious how that looks.

CharlesPavlov, sorry to say no one here is going to tell you much about current operations/deployments and I believe your question falls into this category.

Enjoy watching the A-10 even if you don't know where they're from or what they're doing.

We have that (topless- and nudebeaches) also here (the Netherlands), so they can also come here to watch it . I will stay there with a camera to film the Warthogs.

That reminds me, I need to move out of the "prototype" phase of the t-shirt of prkii's brilliant graphic and figure out a way to actually produce some high-quality shirts! We are going to split the millions we make from selling them 50/50, right?

Don't laugh if you see Jessica Simpson wearing one when she wins an Oscar for her role as Daisy Duke in the new Dukes of Hazard movie!

Cheers! M2

Does Romanian AF has SU-25 Frogfoots? I don't think so (see the link) http://www.scramble.nl/mil/2/far/main.htm
The Czechs has it in the past (see it by myself on airshows).

And Frogfoots don't look like Warthogs, a real different is between them.

Ok . I understand .
It's just that it's driving me crazy ! I've seen and heard some blackhawks and a C-130 the other day . I'm used to "Made in Warsaw Pact" transport choppers which sound like coffee grinders . I never thaught helos could be so ... silent ... I saw the first one yesterday night while going to the local disco . At first I didn't believe it was a hellicopter at all . It was a nice surprise though .

Oh , and the Romanian Air Force dosen't have frogfoots(feet?). I'm quite sure I saw A-10s ,there's really nothing that looks like them in the air .

Hi CharlesPavlov,

it´s because of the ROMEX 05 exercise.
An exercise with US and Romanian troops. I read an article and they mentioned a place called "Babadag".
Hope that helps.

and I got a link for ya:
