Hi All
The westfield show is coming up soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I look forward to it everytime !!! It's probably the best place for an airshow in my opinion and you guys that work there probably agree!!
I got a question is the egress dept going to be displaying their goods?? I'd like to see a ACES II seat on display!!!! along with the flight gear they use !!! the last show they never displayed a thing .
Do any of you guys that work down their have any idea what will be on display???? i have a small collection of ejection seats including
3 1E-9 seats out of A-10's ...and i'd like to get some shots of a Aces,,,, Thanks Dana

Dana, ejection seats are not something normally displayed at airshows, they are more a museum item.

Hmmm, don't know about that Dice, at the old Bentwaters 'Air Friendships' they would display anything Hog related......bang seats an' all!........and an egress trainer one year.

Dc I can tell you that we have ost a lot of statics as of a couple days ago. The Navy cut their flying hours and it took four of our statics . We have a full day of flying though. The big thing this year is going to be the WWII memorial part of the show. The hangar and all the areas suroounding it are going to be strictly period 1939-45. There are a lot of warbirds and th hangar is going to be stuffed full of museum pieces and collectors displays. The grassy areas outside the hangars are going to be bievouaced with WWII armor and re-enactors; tanks, halftracks, jeeps, trucks etc. It is going ot be as far as I am concerned the real high light of the show. But then again a big part of it was my brainchild so maybe I am partial.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

Hawg166,

The WWII idea sounds really cool. Kind of like what they do at Reading, PA every June. Do you have a list of reenactment units attending? I am involved with a WWII Living History group, so if this goes well and you would like some Commonwealth (Scottish) participation next year, let me know and I will see if anyone in my unit is interested. A majority of our group is located in the NE, so we should be able to make a good showing.

Good luck and hope all goes well!

All right I trucked over the Grumman wildcat from the new England Air Museum yesterday and tomorrow ifin someone will be nice enough to volunteer, I will send the pictures and someone can post them. Tomorrow the rest of the warbirds show up as well as the rest of the armor. I am really excited. I am hoping that Topgun will take some pictures for me Friday and post them. If anyone is going to be in the area, the WWII portion of the show is going to be great.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

I won't be home till Saturday night and still have some pictures to go through for the EC Demo pilots. The backup pilot's father was there and I told him I would send him a disk of pictures for him.

I'll be sure to post pictures once I get them done and up on my site. Then off to Brunswick NAS on Sept 9th. <img src=newicons/anim_bannana.gif border=0 align=middle>

Thanks Mike for posting the email addy. I just got in and I am beat. I will be happy when the vets ceremony is done, the Andrew Sisters have played and all the museum pieces are home safe and sound. My freinds PT23 arrived today as the other sidedrop for the Andrews Sisters stage. An FM2 Wildcat to the left, a PT23 on the right and a B25 nosed in behind . A semi circle of warbirds behind it, all lit with spots and we have a show tomorrow night gentlemen. Then I can sleep normally.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>I was a little bummed about the lack of static access we had, NONE, but my flight on the C-47 really made up for that. I didn't understand why they wouldn't allow media people on the ramp where they were parking static aircraft? At Quonset I had full access to everywhere but the hot ramp. When a jet came in for static they just kept people aside while the plane parked. <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

Things got very busy on the static ramp with planes coming in and out so that is probably why media wasn't allowed out there due to the danger of incoming and outgoing aicraft and traffic. I am glad to hear you had a good time at the show. There was alot of planning and effort set forth to make this a success and I think we did pretty damn good despite quite a few planes backing out last minute due to various reasons.

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>That's a very good point, a lot of the planes there had props which Quonset didn't. Never thought of that aspect! <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

Glad you understand. This airshow is nothing like Quonset Point!

It sounds as a lot of fun and sun. I looked at your site TopGun, but I can't find the Westfield Airshow. Other pictures are also cool on the site.
Good luck.

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote> true, but there could be some things that could make Barnes show better for picture taking which Quonset does dead on ;)
<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

If you have suggestions then why not go to public affairs and air the ideas. Better yet, post them on here also.

I had a nice long post, but for some reason my log in fucked up so that was a total loss. Although you say you had a great time and all, you seem to have more negative points about our airshow and its "lack" of catering to the media types, or enthusiast type as yourself. Thousands upon thousands of hours go into planning an airshow so I do find it a little offensive. I wouldn't go on bitching anymore seeing that you got 2 damn media rides! Enough for now, more to follow.

This show isn't designed as a media event. The focus is on family, the military past and present and a "give-back" to the surrounding community. Personally, I think it's the best show in New England and a lot of bases could take a lesson from it. The fact they wouldn't allow access to the ramp while they were parking aircraft was, IMO, a wise move. I've seen media people get so caught up in trying to get THE shot they lose focus (no pun intended) on everything else around them. As an old prop guy, you can take this to the bank; a thousand plus horsepower radial engine swinging a large diameter prop cares not what's in its way.

Top Gun, I read your bio. I also read some of the other posts you have contributed to. What is it you do for a living ? You mean you aren't proffessional media ? For shame. The Barnes guys gave you a MEDIA pass, 2 count them 2 media flights and you still act as though someone pissed in your Cream of Wheat ! I also observed the show. I watched it from Shangri-La where I was visiting some old freinds............................very old freinds. You have nothing to complain about.

Just so you guys know, I've known TopGun through the internet, mostly on combat sim sites, for a few years now and he is a very nice guys who has helped me with a couple of projects in the past. I know he is a straght-up guy and I'm sure his comments were only meant constructively and in no way bad. He was only giving feedback on how he thought the airshow could have been better.
