matt,

Having experienced three hurricanes in the past year (including Frances and Jeanne in Florida), I wish you the best of luck. Keep your head down.

For get september 11 impact on the economy--this is going to knock out the petrochemical instry here for months. Remember Louisiana supplies 30% of all oil, gas, and refined petrochemcial products to the nation. Next time a bill comes up in congress about louisiana keeping more oil royalties for coastal errosion versus welfare tell your congress man to let us protect ourselves.

Good luck, mattlott. I think you need to keep your head up, more than down! Have that Zodiac inflated, just in case. Assuming it hits as predicted, let us know you weathered it OK, ASAP when power is restored. Prayers being said, candles lit, beads moving...

If I could've left Biloxi for Ivan last year I would have. IF you don't have to stay, LEAVE TOWN NOW!!!! This is what insurance is for. Just make sure your policy is up to date!!

wife and daughter are out. Trying to get other family members out or to shelter with me. If after this passes I can I will be looking to see what where I can help locally. This is my background maybe 7 years out of ems, but this is where I know in my heart i should be.

I need to go get sleep this is not a decision I have taken lightly and have gone to great lengths to ensure i am as safe as I can be here. Much planning and decisions were made for this type of storm and me to be here over the past few years. Can not go into the reasons on a open board ok.

Snipe thanks for the safety answers earlier.

matt,

As an Firefighter/EMT myself in NY, I see part of your reasoning. I myself called to volunteer and stay with Fire/EMS personnel when Frances was headed for where I go to school in Florida. I was turned away due to sufficient manning, but thanked for my willingness to help.

I will be looking to see if I am needed after this one.

Matt,

I understand your "Spock-like" mentality on this one. (Needs of the many out-weight the needs of the few or one.) Like Dice said your knowledge and expertesee will be needed after this is over.

Rest up buddy. It's gonna be a long week. <img src=newicons/smiley_salute.gif border=0 align=middle>

guys really need your prayers. Just found out my grandfather who is wheelchair bound was not evacuated per the nursing home plan. It appears the owner decided to save the money or whatever. Too late for me to go get him. If the storm can move just alittle to the east we will gladly take the winds. to the west people like my grandfather will be drown.

In tears here my father and mother evacuated with my baby and wife left this morning I thought everyone was out. The nursing home was to take him to Jackson Mississippi so my parents could care for him there.

Have a feeling I will be searching for my grandfathers body come tueday morning the nursing home is on a flood plain. They told my mother 'nobody told us we had to get out'. Fuck them.

boober i agree and have made plans for my safety. My plans have changed from ealier post will be going to look for my grandfather and securing my building creeps have already been in the parking lot. Crewfew starts soon. Really am going to try and help, but I am going to have to find my grandfather, and possibly my in laws who chose to stay near harvey canal. I am up safe. But come tuesday I fear i will be the collecting the bodies of my family members who were not evacuated or did not elect to come to high ground.

I believe you help the weak and infirmed in society those who can not help themselves and the nursing home has elected to leave my grandfather in a place where he will either drown or die from stress the only answer I can see is they wanted to save a buck.
