My son reported, that Sunday last, duringing Guard weekend, a Black A-10 did a flyover at BDL. It was also observed by a number of other
members of the Unit.
I suggested that perhaps it was still sporting the dark green camo pattern; however, the other folks agreed that the jet was black.
The hog did at least one fly over, perhaps two, then left the pattern.
Unfortunately, no one was able to get the tail codes.
Does anyone have any information on this aircraft?
Thanks,
Mike

Very intresting Mike Stephens. Maybe somebody has took pictures when it did his flyover. Was it seen on an airbase or was there an airbase/airshow somewhere around there? That make searching easier. Sorry, but I don't know what BDL is.
If I can find something about it, I let it know.

I can almost say there is always somebody here on the forum with the correct answer.

Salute

I belive that BDL is the designator for Bradley International Airport just north of Hartford Conn. home of the 103rd FW.

Hello Dutchy,
My son is a member of the 103rd FW CTANG, at Bradley Field (Bradley International Airport).
He did not mention that anyone had taken photos, and I am not certain about any airshows in the area, but I think not.
It was this past weekend, which was Guard Weekend, so there was definately no airshow activity in our area.
He was going to check with OPS to see if they knew, however, my understanding is, that it is not necessary to inform OPS for a single flyover - the tower yes.
Thanks!
Mike

Black A-10's? I haven't seen one of those since 1978 (the first DT&E). However, I see black helicopters all the time. They are in whisper mode listening and watching through my windows with secret sensors developed by Lockheed. I know "the man" is out to get me. My dog tells me so.

It ain't the heat it's the humility.

I dont think it was black. It was that disgusting monstrosity of a hideous paintjob on aircraft 291 that BDL has. It is a gay, absolutly frikkin gay.........................sorry but it is...........................backwards thunderbolt that they paintedon that airplane. It is so big it looks all black.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

I think you're right! That big purple thunderbolt would look black if the light was right.

Mike Stephens, I can't find anything about it.
Website of the airbase is this http:www.ctbrad.ang.af.mil.

And what is that about purple colour? Is there a picture of that plane?

LMAO..no, it's not purple, it's black. It's an expanded version of the WWII tail flash of the P-51's the unit flew with Chenault's Flying Tigers. The 118th was known as the Black Lightning squadron and the tail flash has followed, off and on, since. I can see where someone would think the aircraft is all black since the nose is totally covered. The special paint job is on waiver which Dice will be pleased to hear runs out next year and was done in honor of the unit's 70th anniversary. I think I sent an 8x10 to Paul though I don't know if he burned it or framed it. And Dice, it's 625, not 291.

She's framed & hanging proudly in my "Oh how I love the A-10" hallway....along with all my other A-10 pics, coins, armour models, lego model, books bla bla bal...

I was planning on sending you the new QA coin for the 402 Aircraft Maintenance Group Quality office, but I had the bad luck of getting promoted to a GS-12 in the Wing...so who knows what happened with the coin design...I'll be on the look out for something good from here (not much at Robins, kinda lame).

BUT...if they do move A-10s back down to Moody I'm sure I'll know plenty of people and have an "in" so to speak when they start getting coins/patches, stuff like that....

It must be too early in the morning, did I miss-ID this aircraft at some point?? BTW I have a whole disk of pictures of this aircraft sent to me by a friend Lt. Col Miclom who I'm sure you know/knew Chief.

Here's more on the unit and a few more pics of the aircraft itself....

And now I can't shake the mental image of taking Hawg166 in for a few too many beers, followed by a tattooing session adorning his flanks stem to stern with giant backwards purple thunderbolts... <img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle>
