I'm in Thug, I'd love a couple of chomed ones to go with my collection.

I'll keep an eye out for pricing and availablility.

I know where I am going to put mine. I got this piece of barrel from someone years ago. This will finish off a great display when it is polished up and one of Thug's rounds in it.

I have had that piece for over 10 years, it has just been waiting on the right item to complete it. I think once cleaned up with what you are making on the right piece of wood?

Ive been looking at getting a plasma cutter, for some ornamental iron projects.

Nice silloute of an a10 rolling through hills on Chrome plate, with a pretty varnished wood underneath would be slick

Hey Fender,
That is quite the find. To clean it up, I'd recommend starting by soaking in in a good penitrating oil, like WD-40 for about a week. Then buff it out with steel wool starting with a course wool and working finer up to about a "0000". Once all of the rust is gone and she's nice and smooth, hit it with a good paste wax.

Or, you could get it chomed.

SSSSSSWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTT!

For mounting, you could take a nice dark wood like Limbali or Walnut or Brazilian Cherry, dress the edges, and carve a contour that fits the back side and epoxy it in. West Marine carries some great epoxies that would be perfect for that sort of thing. A little pricy, but they are the best.

Be sure to post a pic once you have her finished. I know I'd love to see it.

Count me in if possible Thug. The other Comm weinies I work with about died when I brought on in as a pencil holder. One as nice as those, they'd be changing their WOW emblazened undies!!!

Comm wienie1: "I got a level 60 hunter with all kinds of weapons!"
Comm wienie2: "I got a level 60 wizard with all kinds of spells!"
Me: "I've got this, pansy. Go back to work! Have your geek circle jerk after."
Comm wienie: "Jaw agape."

You might be a "Bulldog" if: You bend over and grab your ankles when you hear: "EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE!"

I know this is an odd question, but there is a reason for it...can someone tell me how wide a GAU-8 30mm shell casing is across the bottom? In inches please, and it doesn't have to be precious, just close.

Thanks! M2

Perfect! I actually ran and got a quarter so I could compare.

The reason for the question is I got some shotglasses that were from the 81 TFW made from 30mm GAU-8 cases. For some reason they seemed small to me, and as the previous owner flew F-4s at the 81st, I thought they may have been 20mm by mistake; but your picture confirms they are 30mm. One has the 81 TFW emblem on it, and the mahogany box has an 81 TFW patch inlaid on top. Aw hell, to make it easier, here is a pic...

I still need a 30mm round, are you just making the tips or the complete round? If the latter, let me know how much, I can provide a military email address if you need to verify anything, but you gotta do that quick as I am about ready to retire and start work as a nasty defense contractor!

Cheers! M2

That shell I took a picture of was from a shell case that was getting buffed down to shot glasses. Dice knows more about them. He gave that particular shell to me one night i was depleting his Beer stock...

Id love to get a set, i was going to make a shot glass Table desined around the muzzle of a 30mm GAU. Have it rotate and use the shot glasses as barrels.

I own a machine shop now guys so feel free to pass on some ideas...

By the way I allready know your bonafides..No worries. About 80% of the people on this site know me personally...

Major that is one fine set of shot glasses you have there. I always liked the 81st TFW patch, still have a few lying around somewhere from my RAF Bentwaters days. Can't say the same for the EMS squadron patch I wore over there. It was ugly and phallic at the same time. It had a rocket flying through a nut. Kind of like a penis entering a , well you get the picture. I will have to dig one up and post a picture.

I am very familiar with the EMS patch, not the most creative Bentwaters patch out there! I also just won the following poster from eBay as well in my attempt to gather some memorabilia from the 81 TFW (perhaps I will start my own BCWM!)...

It's by Geoff Pleasance from 1987. I have a couple nice Hog prints that I need to get framed, once I get the time. I just signed on with a defense contractor to be a strategic planner here in San Antonio starting about a month. I will end up selling back about a month's worth of leave, which will help pay for all these eBay auctions I have been bidding on!

Cheers! M2
