After 2 1/2 months I took a walk around the flight-line and the A-10 hanger yesterday. Seen some old friends and looked at a few aircraft. Also found a door art I don't have (I belive it was 78-0634) which I hope to snap this week. The door is titled "Aint misbehaven" and shows the Pink Panther riding a 30mm round....pretty cool.

Damn I do miss working the Hawg and being part (at least an active part) of the A-10 community but, I guess that's life.

Dice although you, Goose, and a lot of others on here, including myself, no longer work the A-10 we are a part of it's history. Nothing can change that and if you get that book done your place in the history of the A-10 will be legendary.

Just getting to see the Sim over at Grissom AFB brings back "Old Times" and seeing the static bird stirs that "Feeling"
But like Fender said, its being a part of the family and what you have done Joe for the old Girl is History just like Stress,I'm happy just being a Blip.

Funny, I stop by the Hawg on the parade grounds here at Lackland (76-0547, in 23 TASS markings) every once and a while, just to walk around her and caress her a little. Heck, I even give the pictures of A-10s that adorn our halls loving pats when I pass by.

When I was in the UK a little over a year ago, I made it a point to stop by and see the two remaining A-10s in that country (the static display at Alconbury [80-0219, the infamous 10 TFW Phoenix nose art jet], and the one hanging at the museum at Duxford [77-0259]). I also went back and visited the remains of the greatest A-10 base there ever was, the 81 TFW at RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge.

I get real giddy (yes, I said ‘giddy’) when I see a two-ship of Hawgs fly over, which occasionally happens down here in central Texas. It is almost a talisman to see them. I really wish I could make it to Hawgsmoke, as I haven’t seen Hawg ops going on since my last trip to Spang nearly a year ago...

So I know how you feel, Dice.

Cheers! M2

Goose, Fender, and M2, I'm sure you guys know how I feel. I guess I'm lucky in a way, at least I can walk over and look at some A-10s anytime I want and, I get to see one fly about once a week or so.

As far as my door art book goes..it's still going. I picked-up a laptop to write on because I was having trouble sitting in front of the desktop every day. I write an hour a day which makes it slow going but, at least I'm making head-way. One good thing is I'm finaly geeting all my info down on one document and not scattered over two or three hard-drives.

I totally relate Dice...ever since the 70th shut down my only A-10 fix has been visits to Vegas and my trip on the LSET team to Eglin....feel sorry for the guys loosing their jobs at Moody with the trainers leaving, but I can't wait for the girls to get back there...will know a ton of people so I'll be able to get my "fix" often....

It doesn't happen often, but when a transit A-10 is on the ramp, I'm like a little kid trying to sneek a look....one time they had the engine cowls open & the inner shrouds off...I wanted to go over and help....

Being just a fan I feel a bit of an interloper here, but we miss the Hog greatly here in the UK.
Apart from the odd airshow appearance we rarely get to see it.
2005 was great though, because of the deployments of the Spang Hogs to LN.
I managed to get up to Lakenheath last April and to stand underneath the approach to R24 by the road as the Hogs recovered from their missions was a goose bump inducing experience.
I was amazed at the turn-out of enthusiasts during that time.
M2 mentioned the 'Twin bases', I remember overflying them back in 98, I always thought the Hog looked at 'home' at Woodbridge/Bentwaters.

Since I retired, I've settled in Aurora CO and live right under the pattern for Buckley AFB. Mostly F-16 lawn darts there, but we do see a lot of Transit Birds our way. Every now and then, I'll be out woodworking in the garage and hear that familiar whine over head. I drop my tools and rush out into the back yard like a little kid, just to grab a glance at them as they float over head. Then I'm looking for excuses to go out to the base, look up my old buddies from the flight line or security to get a little closer, and maybe even sneak a pic in.

I live near Savannah, Ga. See a lot of Hornets from MCAS Beaufort and a variety of fighters flying out of Sav airport during guard drill periods in the summer. Hogs are routine and occaisionally eagles. Sure does make me think.....

Nope Dice, you'll never be the only one in that boat! I get excited when I hear about the Airshow this year! Still trying to get WC Demo out here since I work directly for the Wing King if he has any computer problems!!

I can't wait to touch one again. I might just drive to McChord to see the display one there!

You might be a "Bulldog" if: You bend over and grab your ankles when you hear: "EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE!"
