A10Stress: "I don't think it was a 12 gauge. You don't use them for bird hunting, do you? I am not a hunter but my brother was on the national trap and skeet team for the Isle of Mann (no kidding). As I said, I do not know much about firearms, but his guns are much smaller than the 12 gauge I have. A 12 gauge is a relative cannon. Also, when shooting trap/skeet, or birds I guess, it looks as if they are on a hair trigger all the time. You have to react to the first movement or you don't hit it. I wouldn't sneek up on a bird hunter. Wait, I'm a moron. It is not a good idea to sneek up to or surprise anyone with a loaded gun ready to shoot. I heard a good song parody today sung to an Aerosmith song. It starts out like this: "Cheney's got a gun..." way funny."

You are correct, it was a 28gauge. Of course, that does not change the fact that one does not shoot their buddy in the face with ANY firearm.
BTW, yes, i've hunted birds with 12 gauges many times.

"My grandfather used to hunt with a .10 gauge, now that was a cannon...lol"

Just for the record, there is no '.' before 10 gauge.

Gauge means the number of lead balls the bore of the diameter required to = 1lb.

For a 20 gauge it's 20, 10 for a 10 gauge, etc, etc, etc.

"Yeah but at leaste we're not asswipes out here so we got that over Easterners."

I do not use the term redneck as an insult normally. It just means 'hick' or 'countryboy' when i use it.

Here's the Story

Does anyone know "What Redneck Truely means?"

It was used to described workers who worked farming all day because they were bent over, hoeing, raking, picking crops Hard farm labor or
In a job that required you to work a back breaking job in the outdoors.
Actually use to be used by employers to pick workers for work.
If they saw the "Red on your neck from Sun burn " they knew you were a hard worker (REDNECK).
But over the years its turned into a "Slang" term either to be mean or a funny remark for White people like others have their own names which can be offensive or a greeting depending on how its used or by Whom.
We use "PLOWBOY or PODUNK" around here

n. Offensive Slang
Used as a disparaging term for a member of the white rural laboring class, especially in the southern United States.
A white person regarded as having a provincial, conservative, often bigoted attitude.

I've also heard it refered to a person of Irish descent because thier neck would turn bright red when they got mad.
The sunburn thing would only work until you had gotten a good tan.

Chad, thats pretty good training,I had to carry a H&R Crack barrell .410 single shot for my first year empty then started hunting with 5 shells, then 4,then 3 ,then 2.
My next gun I used was a J.C. Higgins 12. guage pump my Dad's first gun he ever bought in 1957. Then When I got back from Japan and stationed at EAFB.La I went with Slim and bought my Mossberg at a Pawn shop for $150.00.
I'll pass it along to one of my Daughters, whichever wants it later on.
