Having problems quitting?

Let late night TV's Craig Ferguson help with these words of wisdom,

<i>"I found that if i was having an urge it went away in a few minutes, whether i had a cigarette or not".</i>

And damn....the man is right. I'm on my 3d straight smoke free day.

This is so easy. :)

Hey Snipe, keep me informed on your progress. Did you go "cold turkey" or did you have help from the patch or something else? My Doc says I need to quit but, damn, it's tough after all the years I've smoked. Good luck to you.

My friends and family quit dozens of times lol I'll stay tuned.
The important thing is if you TRULY WANT to quit, otherwise it will fail. If you are quitting because it's expensive or because someone else wants you to, you will likely rationalize yourself right back onto the cancer-sticks.
STICK WITH IT, I have heard it is the most difficult addiction to quit ( even from heroin addicts ) probly because it's still socially acceptable and such an everyday, all day long habit.

You can do it,

The Dr's told me I had too,but I just rec'vd a free carton in the mail in 01/01 and told him"Doc,I'll quit but not until I smoke this free carton". "I had to save those DAMN tags off the packs for months
and I'm not about to not smoke them." "I'll quit on Ground hogs day"

I went cold turkey, on Feb 2-01 and havent smoked a cig since, but to remind me when I did I left half of pack from that carton in my desk where it still is to remind me
My biggest regert is when I had too give up my pipe in 99. I smoked that for 15 yrs,but it was the hardest thing to give-up.I always had it lit when I was working on something, model building, woodwoerking, outside, hunting and fishing.
Had a rough night at work,or driving back and fourth in Civilain life those 40 miles each way that was my comfort, better than Beer too me.
I had to quit when I started the facial seziures in my face(early MS days)before they knew I had it I would break the stem off with my teeth.
I went thru 3 before I had too quit now I wear that mouth guard all the time.
But if I could today I'd be smoking it like a train!
But Boomer is right you have too want too and Cj "Wants too" PLUS THE COST. I told her dont do it for it me.Do it for yourself.

You guys can do it

Goose

Tobacco is one heck of an addictive drug. I chewed tobacco and dipped snuff for almost twenty years. Then one day my bottom lip went numb. Needless to say I quit right then and there. It wasn't all that easy I can tell you that. I always had a chew in my lip and working on the line made it real easy to do, no spit can needed. Now I can't even stand the smell of it now, makes me feel sick.

Damn fenstrat72 you were a redneck. lol

Seriously snipe I am glad you and anyone else is stopping. I saw some many cancers, heart problems, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients over the years I would like to hang some tobacco executive murder.

I saw a commercial from the 1950's were the tobacco company's advertise that you smoke methol cigarettes toget over a cold and sore throat.

You realize also these cigarette companies have killed more World War vets than the enemy ever did--one heck of a friendly fire incident.

My best wishes to all of you who are quitting. A couple of years ago, my best friend and Scube Diving Buddy, died from smokeing. OCPD or something like that was the official cause. Dr's are still affraid to come right out and say he died from smoking.

He lingered in a hospice for about 3 months, not yet dead, but far from alive. That was the toughest thing I've ever had to experience. If he'd have been a Dog, the Vet would have just put him down to end the suffering, but we can't do that to people. Just F&*kin Stupid, to have to suffer like that.

Further more, my Dad who quit cold turkey back in the late '70s, about the time I joined the AF, is now on oxygen 24-7. I've seen what smoking can do to the body, and it's not a pretty picture.

If anyone else out there is thinking about quitting...<b>DO IT NOW!</b>

My best wishes to all of you who are quitting. I know it's not easy. A good friend and fellow Wood Worker up in Washington State quit last year. He had a hard time of it, but gutted it out and hasn't smoked since. He did have a lot of frustrations, but a small community of rabbits and his rifle helped him work through that.

Good luck, and best wishes,

It's been close to ten years since I lit up a Cowboy Killer. Cut down to two cig's a day, then just up & quit from there.

Of course moochers who bummed at least twenty-five out of every pack might of been good for <i>something</i>.

Cool DUDE!!!!
But have you substituted another activity instead of smoking? lol
You CAN do this but I know from family experiance it's easier to begin quitting than to keep it up long term.

I had a nice sore throat going, and had to cough up a loogie after a concert on Saturday night, thanks to the cloud of second hand cigarrette smoke.
