OK, I will give you a little help. Go to the following web site and do your research...

http://www.dynamictruth.com/cgi-bin/ult ... category=1

Focus on the 'Pilot Selection Process' and 'What Are My Chances?' forums. See 'Aviation Medicine' for any medical questions you may have. Also try 'Air National Guard/Air Force Reserves,' as you'll stand a better chance of flying a Hawg if you go that route.

And please do your homework before asking questions on any of those forums.

Good luck! M2

Killerclaw- I am also in your position (just turned 18 and looking to become an A-10 pilot someday.) throught the research I have done the best way is obviously go to the Academy, for many of us this is not an option. Next best thing is ROTC. Since you are looking to drive the hog it must be Air Force. So do some research on what schools has an AFRTOC program that you would like to attend. College majors should make no difference on whether you get a slot or not. Just get good grades! However you must score high on the AFOQT test and some college majors may help you with it. Also remember they are looking for the "whole man" so you must be in top physical shape and be in good standing with your officers in AFROTC.

Another option would be OCS (Officer Candidates School) You can apply for this after you go to school and from there it is basicly the same route. Score high on the AFOQT and physical fitness tests etc. It is my impression that they usually have less slots for pilots but could be wrong.

Remember better the grades better chance you get the airframe you want.

Also a Privates Pilots License can help alot with the decision on getting a pilot slot. (also could be wrong on this just an impression I have on research I have done.)

Good Luck Killerclaw!

Actually, no, that is not the best (as in most likely) way to become an A-10 pilot. If you really want become an A-10 pilot, start going to college as you will need a bachelor's degree to be commissioned. Secondly, find and enlist in an Air National Guard unit that flies the Hawg. Bust your ass no matter what job you get, and let them know that your goal is to get your diploma and go to pilot training to fly with the unit. Last, hope that BRAC or some other power beyond your control doesn't screw up your plans. That is the best/most likely way to become an A-10 pilot!

Cheers! M2

One addition, the following comment is completely wrong...

"Remember better the grades better chance you get the airframe you want."

Your college degree will have nothing to do with the airframe you will get out of Undergraduate Pilot Training. It is how well you do at UPT that determines what airframe you will get, and even if you are the #1 stud in your class, if there are no Hawg drops for your class, you won't be getting an A-10. About all good grades and sucking up at AFROTC will do is get you a chance to go to pilot training, and that is only if you pass a flight physical and do well at Initial Flight Screening(IFS), formerly known as IFT.

I strongly suggest you go to BaseOps and do more research, as you don't have all your ducks aligned and I would hate for you to proceed with erroneous info...

Cheers! M2
