10 years ago tomorrow! Assisting a hydraulic troop install a speedbrake actuator. He had connected the hydraulic lines (which I wasn't aware of)while I was trying to line the pin up in the actuator end and bellcrank. He was squeezing the upper and lower board together and I put my finger (LH Middle) into the bellcrank and actuator to "feel" how far and which way everything had to go. I know, that was stupid, and I had 13 years of experience at the time and new better. The lines being connected caused back pressure in the actuator. When the actuator won the physical battle, it moved one way, the bellcrank moved the other way, and my finger tip fell on the hangar floor. I lost 1/2 inch of my fingertip with bone and all. The hydraulic troop freaked out and I sat there, putting pressure on the wound telling jokes about it. I can't think of of a better way to be permanently (though slightly) disfigured or "disfingered" but by the Warthog.
