Anyone know of a Hog ever taking on a ZSU-23/4 or ZSU-57/2 in Iraq with the Avenger?

I know the 30mm was supposedly selected in part cause it outranged the ZSU, so i was wondering if it's ever happened in combat since the Iraqis had both 23mm and 57mm SPAAs.

Thanx.

I believe with the addition of the LITENING pod there was no need to go after ZSU's with the gun and, correct me if I'm wrong but, a Mav would be first choose over the gun wouldn't it (Coach).

Yeah, i can't disagree with any of that, but then, there's nothing as macho as dueling it out with a quad barreled ZSU either....and Hogdrivers are studs.

Hehehehe.

Remember what Patton said about dying for ones country...macho only counts at the bar.

You may still need to go after a threat, depends on the situation. And like Dice says, many choices on how to kill it.

Well if any of you good lads ever hears of a particularly fang-driven Hogdriver that tossed the dice and rolled in on a ZSU with his gun, please....post the details. :)

Snipe ,

I dont know about ,"Types etc... " but 166 was credited with 16 AAA sites".
166 did take a "Few HITS with 57mm" outside of Bahgdad on one of the 1st A-10 runs up there to get a few "AAA" SITES mounting on top of a Civilain area.
They didnt want to use AGM-65's due to where it was at.
I'M thinking who was on that mission it could of Been "ROOT or VAIL"
But it got the #1 nose cowl and a chunck of the door.
Billy saw the ABDR work that was done from it.

She flew on home engine was just a "Little bent-up" and we changed it out.

But HOG's did go in on AAA sites with the GAU-8, I guess it all depended on the threat .I think thats how 79-9197 ended up with the "Golden BB" hit in the Center windscreen with the 27mm.

You'd have to get the run down from some of the "SAND HOG DRIVERS"

Best I can do Snipe, but remember too Hog's use to take on SAM sites with AGM,MK-82's or the GAU when they were working with the WW F-4's and they couldnt get the ROCKS to lite up the RADAR.

Yeah he is a freak when it comes to rememberin' stuff. If Dice is the Fred G Sanford of the A-10 community, Goose has got to be Lamont. I knew the story by the way I just like it more when he tells it.

Somethings just get "Branded in your Head", plus the pictures I have on the wall.

I have been told of some "AGM-65" in the Revietment Wall photo's floating around, I'm trying to track them down, thats
my NEXT BIG PHOTO HUNT!
But "GOLDEN BB" pictures or the Windscreen is out there, someone has it.
The AGM-65 MIS-FIRE
I've only seen mention of it in a book and that was the "Modelers Guide with the Barksdale jet on the cover" .
It was in the very back in the "Timeline"
