hello I found this on a college newspaper website.
Editor:
Having graduated from the U, I typically enjoy watching Utah football and taking part in other activities related to the school and its community.
However, the Air Force induction ceremony at the recent CSU vs. Utah football game during half time made me sad to be a part of the U family.
It was disgusting to see a college sporting event turned into a political assembly meant to increase patriotism and support for the war.
There is no defense for this kind of behavior, especially coming from an institution of higher learning.
In all honesty, this type of flag-waving and public assembly of patriotism made me sick to my stomach as it reminded me of propaganda techniques used by the fascists in Nazi Germany. Those of us who might disagree with the war were put in a situation where our silence could be perceived as acquiescence, and speaking out as dishonoring service personnel. It was, in short, a ridiculous moment in the NEW AMERIKA.
