hello I found this on a college newspaper website.

Editor:

Having graduated from the U, I typically enjoy watching Utah football and taking part in other activities related to the school and its community.

However, the Air Force induction ceremony at the recent CSU vs. Utah football game during half time made me sad to be a part of the U family.

It was disgusting to see a college sporting event turned into a political assembly meant to increase patriotism and support for the war.

There is no defense for this kind of behavior, especially coming from an institution of higher learning.

In all honesty, this type of flag-waving and public assembly of patriotism made me sick to my stomach as it reminded me of propaganda techniques used by the fascists in Nazi Germany. Those of us who might disagree with the war were put in a situation where our silence could be perceived as acquiescence, and speaking out as dishonoring service personnel. It was, in short, a ridiculous moment in the NEW AMERIKA.

Freedom of Speech. Your problem with it again is what?

The US armed Forces made it possible and protect the Constitutional freedoms US citizens enjoy.

I am a Veteran and raised in Utah. Is it worth my time to get into a combative protest?

Jeff begrudges a small ceremony of encouragement to people who have committed their lives to defending him. We can agree on something, Jeff, those Nazi propaganda techniques are alive and well and they have been refined by Michael Moore and Oliver Stone! This example is why that typical statement "We are against the war but we support the troops" is total hogwash. Jeff is uncomfortable with all things military and is intimidated by them. He is against the war and anyone associated with it. He wants to start up the old "baby killer" chant but is afraid of a backlash right now. If Kerry had won the election, Jeff and his buddies, would have been bolder. I am not looking forward to protests and name calling like I endured in 1969-1972 (I see it is stylish for lefties to spell America with a "k" again, how retro) but I am inclined to be more confrontational now. Bring it on, Jeff.
