I was just killing some company time mooching about on WT when I cams across this post, followed the link and was simply astonished by the level of detail on this model.

I’ve not really spent much time in this part of the forum so have no idea of how typical this is of the standard of modeling out there.

I'm totally blown away and a little bit green that I have neither the talent, patience nor eyesight to do this kind of work.

Respect is due…

What 44hp said. Everytime I see something like this I realize I may as well sell my Trumpeter on eBay 'cuz I'll never build it anywhere remotely close to that.

To be honest the best thing happened to my childhood modeling efforts.

They got a firecracker up the tail pipe.

I keep looking at the pictures, even the cockpit ladder has got a level of detail that defies belief.

I'm not trying to cheapen anything, this is just a theoretical question, if you put a model like that on e-bay, what would it fetch?

Definitely take my hat to him!

I hope I'm not stepping on any toes by jumping in here since I'm not an official member of the A-10 community. I did, however, want to thank you guys for the comments on my model. I saw the hits from this forum in my site statistics and when I saw your posts I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate them.

What Dice-Man failed to mention is that for the past few months I've been worrying the bejeezus out of him and a couple of others with questions about the A-10. If this model turned out well it's because of the help that he and a few others provided, and I owe him one for that.

I'd also like to point out that much of what is perceived as "Talent" is actually just "Technique" and "Patience". You guys have the ability to put my model to shame simply because you are so much more familiar with the A-10 than I ever will be. Where I have to hunt the internet for reference photos or lean on guys like Dice for assistance, you already know what something is supposed to look like. and that is a HUGE advantage. 30mike-mike don't put that Hawg on E-Bay, dig it out and build it up. All it takes is patience. 44hollowpoint my eyes are 53 years old and have bifocals in front of them. I couldn't do it either without the benefit of a great big magnifying lamp.

Guys I am truly grateful for the comments and if you have any questions I'll be more than happy to answer them. If you decide to build one up I'll also be glad to help in any way I can. There are no secrets, only a few tricks. The cockpit ladder took about an hour. The landing gear, well it took a bit more

Thanks again!

SC,

Greetings...

As an aside, you'll notice it doesn't matter if you use your real name or select a handle, somebody will give you a new one anyway...

I have to come clean, I'm a Poser, I've never flow a Hog or laid a spanner on one, I just really appreciate it as big nasty flying gun.

I very rarely venture 'North of the border' on WT and spend most of my time on the Southern forums where my childish behavior is tolerated (sometimes ).

But I am capable of appreciating quality in many different ways and IMHO that model is a class act. The photography isn't bad either.

I think you're being a bit modest saying anybody can do it if they apply themselves, I tried enough models in my youth to know I just ain't cut out for it.

I also forwarded the link to your site to a few friends at work. All the emails back have been of a similar vein, along the lines of "amazing"...

Now that you've visited, we hope you stay around and post some more examples of your work.

You're born, you keep your head down and you die. If you're lucky...

Yeah, I hang out on enough forums to know how that works. I use that username on several forums (FSM is the only one I don't and it's just because I'm to stubborn to ask the mods to change it).

The absolute, unquestioned, most important thing you can have building a model is lots and lots of patience.

For example ... The TEWS units in an F-15C behind the cockpit have numerous wiring connections coming of them (obviously ). Wires are easy; drill a hole, poke the end of a wire in some Zap, poke it in the hole. But I noticed in a photograph that these cables immediately turn 90 degrees out of the unit and have some aluminum sheaths so they don't break where they bend back. I can do that, says I, so I sat there tonight drilling holes down the center of a short piece of 0.025" solder and then bent the solder to simulate that sheath. Things like that really tend to get noticed, and they aren't that hard to do. It just takes time and patience.

Tell them that I'm truly grateful for the comments, they mean a lot. That model was tough to build, but now that it's done I can look back and say I enjoyed most of it. I still have to build the GAU-8. It's fully detailed in the kit but hidden if you install it in the fuselage so I'll build it separately.

Thanks for the welcome, and I will certainly check back from time to time. I might even try to tackle converting an A-10A to a "C" model sometime!

Cool, thanks Dice. Wish I had an A-10 ID but my life took a different turn. Any time I can return the favor, don't hesitate to ask. Be glad to help any of you guys who want to build a Hawg.

Spectacular job on the Hog, SCraig, and a very warm welcome. I sincerely hope you make yourself a frequent and contributing member of at least the modelling forums here at WT.

There is always hope-- only because it's the one thing no one has figured out how to kill... yet.

I am in the process of making a model just like this. Same decals too. I am doing a few different things though, but it is as close as it will ever come. This is a great reference for me, thanks dice.

Thanks, Horrido. I've been checking around the forum frequently, just haven't had much to say I appreciate the warm welcome very much.

Not a very positive comment for all the work this man put into his model.
