My beef is this:
That bombs have exploded in London, and without even knowing who planted them, there are those in the west who are almost willing to give a pass to the people responsible for this, but instead will point the finger at the US as if George W planted them himself (A reaction that I knew was coming, by the way). There seems to be this belief around here that if there was no resonse by the US after 9-11 and everyone just kept a stiff upper lip, then we would all be holding hands with the Islamic fundamentalists and there would have been no bombings in the past several years.
Well, I say BS! There was little to no response to the initial WTC bombing, nor the African Embassy bombings, nor the USS Cole, nor the Khobar towers, etc....and that didn't stop the violence. In fact, the violence only quickened in it's pace and was perpetrated on a much grander scale. Something had to be done, and I believe that the overall policy of changing our relationship with the Muslim world by bringing democracy to the Mideast has merit. However, it's a plan that will not bear fruit tomorrow, or next week or even next year. The fact that there are still terrorist acts does not mean it has no validity.
I am perfectly willing to admit that I don't think everything has gone swimmingly and there have been major errors and miscalculations. But I will say it again....since it's about "doing the right thing to the right subjects", then I would ask the "blame the USA" left-wing crowd to please give me your plan to permanently change the relationship between the Islamic world and the West. Please, somebody give me something....anything. If the US policy is so glaringly wrong, then there must be a simple policy that would be clear to a casual observer. Surely someone can come up with a plan that will dismantle Al qaeda and similar cells, forever change the desire of Islamic peoples to see the decadent western world destroyed, maintain access to the oil that none of us is willing to give up, and do it all without nuclear weapons.
I love how people can complain easily, but ask them for solutions, and they quiet down quick...
