Has anyone said the CHIEFS?!?!?! I try to say it every year. lol. I've actually been lazy and didn't read through some of the posts. So excuse me if someone mentioned your future 2005 SuperBowl champs. Wait, is it 2004 or 2005, man some of that smoke drifted my way.

Hey Warthog 30, how can you bring up the Cleveland Browns and not make a reference to the great Browns teams of the early 80's? Brian Sipe and the "cardiac kids" have to be one of the most underated group of players of all time...Bernie Kosar had some good years as well, very savy QB, despite his ugly mechanics...

I just started to become a fan around then. I was only around 10 when the Cardiac Kids were doing their thing. I do remember my favorite players back then were Mike and Greg Pruitt and Doug Dieken.

Yes, Bernie was awesome even though his mechanics were funny. His longest rushing touchdown ever was 7 yards! That being said, he also threw 308 consecutive passes without an interception (breaking Bart Starr's record)! I can't imagine anyone even coming clost to that record.

You obviously are on crack. Defense is what it takes to take that Lombardi trophy. They have a very prolific offense, like I alluded to, but they still don't have the defensive skills. It does not matter if you score 100 points if you allow 101!

POST BT Warthog 30:

20-3. Maybe it's cuz I'm a huge Browns fan, but if I ever see Ray Lewis and Deion Sanders again it'll be too soon. Lewis celebrates like he won the Super Bowl after every play. Deion's "Past his Primetime" (0 tackles, 0 int). The Ravens defense didn't look as good as everyone says and their offense was anemic. I give the Browns as good a chance as any to win the AFC North.

On another note, if you like the NFL and NCAA Football, get DirecTV with ESPN Gameplan and NFL Sunday Ticket. I talked my wife into it and it absolutely rules. The only problem is I switch between games so much it hurt my nugget...

Eagles win today 31-17(it was not as close as the score).

McNabb threw for over 300yds, completed 70% of his passes, and threw 4 TD passes.

T.Owens caught 8 passes, 3 for TDs in his first game as an Eagle(the entire Eagles WR corps last year caught a total of 5 TD passes!)

B.Westbrook ran for 119 yards on 16 carries.

J.Kearse had a fumble recovery on the goal line, and applied immense pressure all day- as did the whole Eagles D(the Eagles had either 5 or 6 sacks- i lost count, lol).

Hugh Douglass also had a sack in his return to the Eagles.

Next up: Minnesota at home on Monday night.

Prediction?

Eagles 27-14 :)

Let's do a little comparative posting here, shall we?

quote:
Eagles win today 31-17(it was not as close as the score).

Vikes won today also, 35-17 (against last year's #1 defense).

quote:
McNabb threw for over 300yds, completed 70% of his passes, and threw 4 TD passes.

Culpepper only threw for 242 yds, but completed over 70% of his passes, throwing for 5 TD passes to 4 different receivers. McNabb only threw TDs to Smith and T.O. today.

quote:
T.Owens caught 8 passes, 3 for TDs in his first game as an Eagle

Moss caught only 4 passes, 2 for TDs, but also threw a 37-yd pass. I'll give this one to T.O., he did have a phenomenal day as an Eagle.

quote:
B.Westbrook ran for 119 yards on 16 carries.

Can't touch that. Onterrio Smith had a decent game (63-yd TD reception, 76 yds on 15 carries) but Westbrook outran him. Sad that he had over 150 yds today with no score though.

quote:
J.Kearse had a fumble recovery on the goal line, and applied immense pressure all day- as did the whole Eagles D(the Eagles had either 5 or 6 sacks- i lost count, lol).

Vikes' D didn't impress me - though newcomer Antoine Winfield did on his own: 8 solo tackles, 2 forced fumbles (1 he recovered)... he's definitely a welcome addition.

quote:
Next up: Minnesota at home on Monday night.

Prediction?

You really feel it's gonna be that lopsided?? In all honesty I can't say what I really feel this game's gonna end up as; this early in the season it's anybody's game. Both McNabb and Culpepper are looking great; Moss and T.Owens are both hungry and ready to wake up the secondary; Westbrook's looking good, but Minnesota's got Onterrio Smith AND Moe Williams (not to mention Mewelde Moore, and Michael Bennett when he returns from injury).

I guarantee this game's gonna come down to three things: defense, special teams, and penalties. It's blatantly obvious that the guns are gonna be blazing and TDs are gonna be flying through the air back and forth, so the key is gonna be in whichever team feels more comfortable and doesn't lose their head. As much as I hate to admit it, it'll probably fall to Philly (since it's at their field and all).

I'll be watching this game from start to finish, and it's looking like it's gonna be a great one... we'll see, Snipe, we'll see... ;)

The Vikes are historically a lousy road team, and the Eagles record on MNF(as well as McNabbs) is PHENOMENAL. McNabb is Mr. McNabbulous on MNF. ;)

One guy to watch out for next week- OLB Nate Wayne. He is one of those players that just EXPLODES on MNF(you'll no doubt hear that mentioned next week on the telecast many times, lol- his career MNF stats are unbelievable).

Moose Johnson was awed by the Eagles Offense today. He kept stating again and again that he had no idea that Westbrook was not just a blazing fast runner with tremendous moves- but also a very physical runner with tremendous tackle breaking ability. Tony Siragusa was the sideline reporter for the game, and commented that when Westbrook cut it looked as if the entire opposing defense was standing still. Westbrook really made them look stupid. ;)
He is a tremendous young halfback(this is only his 3d season). Him getting hurt in the last game of the regular season is to me the reason the Eagles didn't make the superbowl last year. He was the catalyst for the whole offense last year(he lines up all over the field and causes tremendous mismatch problems). Throw in Terrell Owens....and the Eagles O is a matchup nightmare for teams. The Eagles also have a 2d year tight end by the name of L.J. Smith with blazing speed(for a tight end) that you've probably not heard of yet.
Expect to be acquainted with him next monday night. The presence of Westbrook and Owens caused so much grief for the G-men that he had huge seams up the middle and did serious damage today(Actually, so did WR Todd Pinkston, who also caught a 58 yard bomb). Smith has the potential to be a star player in this offense. He scored 1 TD, and had i think 5 catches. Pro Bowl tight end Chad Lewis also had 4 or 5 catches(McNabb completed passes to 7 different players in the game).

Oh, and T.O....he got MUGGED in the endzone today- robbing him of a 4th Touchdown. At the time the game was 31-10, and i don't think the ref felt like giving us another 1st and Goal at the 1 yard line, lol.

I would also point out...the Eagles D is at an entirely different level than the Cowboys D- especially when it comes to the pass rush, which was tremendous against the Giants(it should be with Johnsons blitzing scheme and the personnel the Eagles have- and it was).

Over 200 of the Giants yards on Offense came in the fourth quarter in garbage time. Through 3 quarters the Eagles had held them to about 150 yards of offense. With Kurt Warner, Amani Toomer, Tiki Barber, and Jeremy Shockey the Giants actually have a pretty potent offensive attack. They should actually be decent this year, and will flirt with an 8-8 record(not bad considering the Division they play in).

Oh, and those 8 catches T.O. racked up were against one of the very best young cover corners in the league. On two of his TD catches he was double covered, lol.

What score do you predict for next week?

Hmmm... maybe 38-35 Vikings, in overtime.

Honestly I'm not looking to 'predict' a score, so much as to say it's going to be an out-and-out scorefest... an air-attack game from both sidelines. I'm thinking that the ground games for both teams are going to be targetted early on, since both Philly and 'Sota know that each other has a VERY potent passing game. Therefore the idea would be that instead of stretching out secondaries and double-covering Moss and T.O. for 4 quarters, both teams will try and eat up some ground (I expect Westbrook and O.Smith to both have their work cut out for them).

However I don't see that lasting for long, so then it'll resort back to what Culpepper and McNabb do best - launching bombs into the end zone. Culpepper's got Randy Moss, Marcus Robinson, Nate Burleson, Kelly Campbell, Keenan Howry, Jim Kleinsasser, Onterrio Smith, Moe Williams, Mewelde Moore. Donovan's got his own arsenal as well, so I'm not counting on either team bowing down to the other by any means.

Add to that the fact that both QBs are mobile and aren't afraid to move the ball themselves if needed, and this is definitely going to shape up to be a game WORTHY of Monday Night Football. We'll see who gets to talk the smack, and who gets to eat crow, come Tuesday morning Snipe... ;)

Are you kidding me?

The eagles defense is VASTLY superior to last years...as is their offense.

LOL!

Dude, i want some of what you're smoking!!! ;)

And, oh, that abberant accuracy led to a 137 QB rating for McNabb, against a defense that is far superior to minnesotas.

LOL

Eagles 27-14.

Just to compare personnel from last years eagles defense:

Defensive ends, last year: Brandon whiting, LDE
N.D. Kalu, RDE

this year: Jevon Kearse, LDE
Hugh Douglas, RDE

Line backer, last year: Carlos Emmons, LOLB
Mark Simoneau, MLB
Nate Wayne, ROLB

this year: Dhani Jones, LOLB
Jeramiah Trotter, MLB(and simoneau)
Nate Wayne, ROLB

D backs, last year: Bobby taylor(31yo, missed 7 games last year)
Troy Vincent(32yo, missed 9 games last year)

this year: Lito Sheppard(started 9 games last year,2rd pick)
Sheldon brown(started 7 games last year)

The eagles have a VASTLY superior pass-rush(which covers young DBs deficiencies nicely- not that either is a bad player. Brown is a big hitter, and Sheppard has blazing speed and excellent cover skills) this season, and are much stronger up the middle with the return of DT Hollis Thomas and the return of Jerimiah Trotter.

The Eagles had two 4th quarter goal line stands yesterday. Even in garbage time with the game out of reach the Giants couldn't punch it in on two separate occasions with a 1st and goal inside the 5- in fact, they got ZERO points out of their efforts).

The Vikings are about to find out what a speed bump feels like on national TV...and so are you. ;)

NFL Passing Leaders - Week One
(Columns are: Rank, Name, Team, Passing Yds, Attempts, Completions, TDs, INT, Long, and RATING)

1 Daunte Culpepper MIN 242 23 17 5 0 63 147.1
2 Donovan McNabb PHI 330 36 26 4 0 53 137.5

Tsk, tsk, tsk... Culpepper had a higher completion percentage, longer pass, one more TD, AND a higher QB rating... and you still tout him as the 'be-all, end-all' QB for the NFC. You've got another thing comin', Snipe...

We shall see. :)

Next tuesday, just remember i warned you. ;)

The Eagles havn't lost a home MNF game since the 90s.

I didn't tout him as the best, was just countering Vettes ridiculous claim that he is an innacurate passer...which is just that....ridiculous. ;)

"I don't really remember the last time my Vikes won a road game let alone against a decent team, but the Vikes tore up the leagues #1 Defense last year."

The Eagles have torn that vaunted defense up four games in a row WITH Woodson bro. ;)

Expect it be six in a row by the end of the season. ;)

"I don't see the O-Line for the Eagles any better than the Cowboys, especially barring recent injuries, so the Vikes D will hopefully look better next week, assuming they stop calling all that prevent(the win) crap!"

The Eagles line has three all pros on it(Current or former). They would be Thomas, Mayberry, and Runyan. Not the greatest line in the league, but a pretty darned good one.

Prevent defense blows....we agree there. LOL, Jim Johnsons blitz on every down from every angle scheme is diametrically opposed to the prevent. Culpepper will probably see more blitzing on monday night then he will the whole rest of the year, lol.

Johnsons motto is "If you don't go(on the blitz), you'll never know".
When the Eagles D(even last years pathetic D) comes up against an opponent that's not ready for it....yikes. Amazingly enough, that seems to happen several times a year, lol. Poor Eli Manning found out all about that on sunday in the 4th quarter. I wonder if the bell in his head has finally stopped ringing yet.

"From an offense standpoint, there is no defense in the NFL today that I don't think this year's Vikings can score on."

I agree. They'll score on the eagles...but i'll buy you a pony if they score 30pts like Frogger predicted. ;)

"It's gonna be a great game!"

While my prediction is 27-14 Eagles, a lackluster performance by the eagles could easily REVERSE that score. If this game wasn't on monday night, i'd give you guys a much, much better shot....but the Eagles have been one of the top MNF teams in the league since the late 80s, especially at home. I honestly cannot remember the last time the Eagles lost a MNF game at home. It's been at least 5 seasons.

I have already given up for the year...The Raiders 50 million dollar 1200 lbs of flesh defensive line couldn't stop Pittsburg's rushing attack for nothing, then Hines Ward eats Phillip "Showtime" Buchanon's lunch all day long...No suprise really, Raiders suck this year...BTW Dallas had an overated "D" last year, and the Vikes always start fast and fade late season or in the playoffs...Eagles and Patriots this year...

Just thought it ridiculouly funny that you guys are agrguing about two QB's who posted SICK QB ratings last week. With those numbers, they're both studs, who cares about who had a longer pass, etc?? I know about 30 teams that would love to have either one of them. BTW, I like the Eagles by 10 (at least) when they play MN...

What? Nobody biting on the Browns/Ravens post?? Just interested to see what ya'll think about Deion and Ray (not to mention Boller)...

Oh, and since we're throwing out "ridiculous" predictions for next Monday night ("Eagles by 10 (at least)"), I'll change my previous prediction to 38-17, Vikings. Eat that.

Deon is a bit archaic, but Jerry Rice did make the AFC Pro-Bowl at 39, and at 42 is still a good possesion reciever. Of course Rice is simply a freak of nature in the same mold as the imortal Nolan Ryan...

I agree about Jerry Rice. You just don't see 37 year-old corners. Kickers, QB's, receivers, even safeties.

BTW, not trying to rile anyone up (frogger). I really don't care either way (MN or Philly). MN just looks like KC to me. Tons of offense and no defense. Vinny Testaverde is one of the bottom three QB's in the NFL (close behind Kyle Boller and Rex Grossman) and he lit up the MN defense. KC proves it doesn't matter if you score 35 points a game if your defene gives up 36. Hopefully Sunday was just an anomaly for the MN defense...

LMAO... I must've been unconscious the first time. (J/K)

In all seriousness, tonight's game is going to be a testament to what Monday Night Football's supposed to be about: two powerhouse teams throwing bombs back and forth all night long... a war between end-zones. McNabb and T.O. are gonna play host to Culpepper and Moss, and the ground is gonna shake for a long time after the game's over.

I *do* still think that Minnesota is going to win (I have to believe as a fan), but I also think there's a great chance that Philly could shut 'em down if their defense is clicking tonight. Either way it's gonna be a nail-biter.

On other teams: anybody see the Dallas game yesterday? What a sloppy-ass win for the Cowboys. And Jeff Garcia looked like a 4th-string QB, throwing 3 picks, only completing 8-of-27 for 71 yds and NO TDS! His passer rating yesterday was ZERO!! Vinny Testaverde wasn't much better with his 3 ints, but he did complete 23-of-35 for 322 yds and 1 TD, making him the yardage leader through the second week of the regular season.

Due to a 'goodbye' luncheon for one of my church's pastors, I didn't get to see any other games yesterday... any comments from the peanut gallery? Seems there were a few upsets yesterday (JAC over DEN, CHI over GB, etc.).

The only good thing Buffalo did yesterday was breaking Rices streak of catches a game....
